Colleagues,

The University of West Georgia submitted its fifth-year interim report to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) earlier this year, and we received an extremely favorable review for the interim report.

The report addressed 22 standards across all areas of the institution, including institutional leadership, academic programs, student learning and achievement, student support services, and our campus environment. The peer review committee also evaluated the impact report of our Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), “Improving Undergraduate Writing in the Core Curriculum,” noting the plan made the best impact on students’ experiences possible while following the proposed model.

Congratulations and appreciation are due to the staff in Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment, led by Dr. Cathi Jenks. Additionally, our QEP director, Dr. Nadya Williams, deserves special recognition for her work in leading those efforts. Beyond these individuals, many thanks to all those who were involved in providing evidence, writing narratives, and reviewing and copy-editing our interim report. These individuals are too numerous to name, but know your work is appreciated.

IEA has already begun preparations for our compliance certification for reaffirmation, a report due in September 2023. Three years may seem like a long time away, but it will be here sooner than we think, and I appreciate our faculty and staff’s diligent efforts to ensure we remain compliant and on the cutting edge in service to our students.

Thank you, and be well.
