The Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness is responsible for the overall direction, development, and management of all group fitness, personal training, and wellness programming for University Recreation and the campus community. Primary duties and responsibilities include:

 

Student staff management, programming, administration, recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, supervising and evaluating approximately 35 student employees to teach group fitness, personal training, and small group training classes and sessions. Create and maintain program operation manuals associated with student employment and fitness & wellness programming. Organize and conduct frequent student staff meetings and in-service training sessions. Work with personal trainers and clients to establish a weekly schedule and training program consistent with industry standards. Conduct regular staff evaluations focusing on teaching strategies, class dynamics, musicality, form and technique, and proper equipment use. Establish a non-credit group fitness instructional program for new student employees. Create a schedule of class formats each semester and assign qualified instructors to teach various course offerings. Plan, implement, and coordinate a comprehensive group fitness personal training, and small group training program to help build a sense of community and increase university retention. Organize large group special events each semester highlighting different class formats. Create a small group training program designed to reach new individuals interested in wellness with their peers. Serve as the program liaison to the division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, Housing and Residence Life, Health and Physical Education department, and Health Services on issues involving cooperative wellness programming. Collaborate with different university departments to plan, organize and execute fitness competitions, health fairs, and fitness expositions. Host certifications on campus by organizing nationally accredited organizations. Identify learning opportunities regionally/nationally to support student staff. Responsible for the planning, scheduling and conducting of fitness screens and assessments and providing corrective exercise programming. Coordinate with the Associate Director of Programs to plan, promote, and implement an annual calendar of events, including special events that provide in-depth educational programs for individuals and groups, cultures and health status.Responsible for developing all fitness format and class times. Manage all registrations for instructional programs utilizing Fusion Management software. Responsible for programming oversight that occurs during high volume participation times (including nightstand weekends). Assist with administrative responsibilities including budget, payroll, revenue producing programs and strategic planning. Oversee all expenses and revenue transactions. Manage approximately $70,000 yearly budget which includes student wages, travel and supplies. Maintain comprehensive records for semester and annual reports to evaluate student and operational success. Work with the Assistant Director of Marketing and Communication on generating program publicity, identify target markets, and administering public relations for all programs and services. Make recommendations for program equipment and cleaning supplies and frequency. Create an extended strategic plan encompassing student and operational success. Responsible for all communications and promotions, both internally and externally to UREC professional staff and Campus Center students and members. Create a plan for continuous improvement by developing assessment tools to monitor programs and services to be certain that outcomes are consistent with original plans and are carried out in an efficient manner. Manage risk by developing policies, Emergency Action Procedures, and staff guidelines for the Fitness and Wellness programs.
