The University of West Georgia provides wireless access to its students, faculty and staff through the connectWest wireless network. The connectWest wireless network provides a secure wireless connection and requires active UWG credentials to access the network.
Guest access to the connectWest wireless network may be requested by contacting the ITS Service Desk at 678-839-6587.

Connecting to the connectWest Wireless Network
Individuals wishing to connect to the connectWest wireless network must join their device to the connectWest wireless network. UWG utilizes CloudPath's XpressConnect software to automatically configure wireless devices to join to the wireless network.
Detailed instructions for connecting to the connectWest wireless network can be found at the connectWest Device Instructions page. Additionally, instructions are provided in the setup process when anyone connects to the connectWest wireless network for the first time.
Wireless coverage can be found throughout the campus. Wi-Fi is currently available in every classroom and administrative buildings on campus as well as buses. A detailed listing of the existing wireless hotspot locations can be found on our Wireless Access Points page.

When you are connected to the connectWest wireless network, your wireless transmissions are encrypted between your wireless device and the wireless access point it is connected to. This is referred to as "over-the-air" encryption. Any communication your wireless device has between any computer, web site, mail server, etc. is not by default secured. This means that any unencrypted data sent over the network may be intercepted by malicious users. You can verify that a web site has encryption enabled by looking for the “padlock” symbol in the corners of your browser window. It is your sole responsibility to ensure that any information you send over the wireless network is secure. The University has available for your use a VPN client for the Windows OS that will encrypt your connection to the network. The client and instructions for its use can be found here.
Yes, all you need is your active UWG credentials to connect to the connectWest wireless network. Once you have successfully configured your wireless device for the connectWest wireless network, it will always remember your account and automatically connect to the wireless network when in range.
The UWG credentials to be used for the wireless network depends on your affiliation with the University. Select your affiliation from below to determine your UWG credentials.
- The username is your myUWG email username. For example, if your myUWG email address is email@example.com, your username would be jdoe24.
- The password is your Banweb reset PIN.
- The username is your Windows UWG domain account name
- The password is your UWG domain password (your computer login password)
- The username is your UWG email address
- The password is your UWG email password
No, once you have successfully configured a wireless device to connect to the connectWest wireless network, you won't have to re-enter your username and password again. (Note: The one exception to this is when your password changes. If the password for your account changes, the next time you connect your device to the wireless network, you will be prompted to enter your new password. You will have to do this per device you have connected to the wireless network.)
What do I do if my UWG credentials don't work when trying to connect to the connectWest wireless network?
The primary cause for UWG credentials not working revolve around two primary issues: incorrect username/password or invalid credentials
- Incorrect username/password issues:
- Be sure you are using the proper credentials (see other FAQ on credentials for more information)
- The username will NEVER include a email suffix (e.g. @westgedu or @my.westgedu)
- The password is case sensitive and must be entered correctly
- Invalid Credentials
- Only students who are actively enrolled in classes will be able to connect to the wireless network
- Faculty/staff must be actively employed and must have UWG domain credentials
Individuals having problems with their credentials to access the connectWest wireless network should contact the ITS Service Desk at 678-839-6587 during normal business hours for assistance.
If the problem occurs after business hours, students, faculty and staff can still access the wireless network as a Guest. Connect to the connectWest wireless network, select Guest and follow the instructions. Note: This will provide time-limited access to the wireless network and will require that you re-enter your information if the connection to the wireless network is lost (e.g. device goes to sleep, move out of range of the wireless network, etc.)
- Incorrect username/password issues:
Students, faculty, and staff may sign in as a Guest to use the wireless network when his/her UWG credentials do not work. The guest access will require a UWG email account and the associated password for that account.
For individuals not directly associated with UWG, please contact the ITS Service Desk (678-839-6587) to request a temporary account for access to the guest wireless network.

Yes, Students may visit the SITS office located in Cobb Hall 122 during its normal operating hours to receive assistance with connecting wireless device(s) to the connectWest wireless network. Please visit the SITS site to learn more information about SITS.
Faculty and staff members may submit a Service Desk ticket by calling 678-839-6587 or emailing (firstname.lastname@example.org) to get help with connecting wireless devices to the connectWest wireless network.
After I've connected my device to the connectWest wireless network, why does my device list the wireless network as connectWestSEC?
The connectWest wireless network is our "on-ramping" wireless network which is used to get wireless devices onto our secured wireless network. When a device has been fully joined to the wireless network, it will see and automatically join to the connectWestSEC wireless network.
When I try to use the wireless network, no matter what website I try to access, I only get this one page; How do I get where I am trying to go?
Your device has not been successfully connected to the connectWest wireless network. The page that is displayed provides instructions for getting your device connected to the connectWest wireless network. Any wireless device that supports WPA2 wireless connections should work with our wireless network. The individual device also must be able to connect to a 802.11 a/b/g/n wireless network. On certain occassions, I have trouble connecting to the wireless network, even though I am within a wireless network zone. Why is that?
Wireless connections are susceptible to possible radio interference due to weather, other wireless devices, or obstructions like buildings and trees. In this case, try moving to another location within the wireless zone. Keep in mind that connectWest is not intended as a replacement for wired network access. If you are trying to access course material or attend an online class, wired network access is provided for faculty and staff use in their offices and classrooms while students have access to several conveniently located computer labs.
This error is caused by a configuration error of the wireless access point you are connected to. Please contact ITS (678-839-6587) identifying the location (building, floor, area) where you experienced this problem and we will correct the error. In the meantime, try moving to another area of the building or to another wireless location on campus to immediately resolve the problem and continue joining to the connectWest wireless network.
Due to the numerous OS versions available on Android devices, the configuration of the Android device may not complete correctly. If you've tried the joining process multiple times and it does not work, you can manually connect your device to the connectWestSEC wireless network. You can view instructions for this process at this link. Please note the directions are for a specific Android device; however, the steps should be very similar for all Android devices.
No. The purpose of the Android App is to aid in the configuration of your Android device. Once your device has been successfully connected to the connectWestSEC network, the CloudPath XpressConnect app can be removed. (Note: iPads, iPhones, iPod Touch, Mac laptops, and Windows laptops do not install a client and therefore don’t have an app to remove)
Since I've connected my Android device to the wireless network, I've noticed my battery is exhausted much quicker. What can I do?
Some individuals have noticed that the battery life on their Android devices is shorter after having connected to the connectWest wireless network. Based on investigation, this occurrance may be due to the CloudPath XpressConnect app that was installed to connect the device to the connectWest wireless network. We recommend that you uninstall the CloudPath XpressConnect App from your Android device once you have successfully connected to the connectWestSEC wireless network to avoid this problem. We are working with the vendor to address this problem and will update this page with any additional information.
