To make the experience of adding devices to the wireless network easier, simply select your device from the list below to view instructions. Please note that it is important for your device to be within the network's range for these instructions to work as described. If your device is not listed below, view the instructions of a device that has the same operating system as your wireless device.

  • Kindle Fire

    Back to connectWest Device Instructions

    1. In order to successfully complete these instructions, your Kindle Fire must be on campus and able to connect to the wireless network.  Note: Your Kindle Fire must have already completed its initial setup before attempting to connect to the connectWest wireless network.

     

    2. From the home screen, click on the “Settings” icon located in the upper right hand corner.

     

     

    3. From the list of option, click on the “Wi-Fi” icon.

     

     

    4. Scroll to the bottom of the list of available networks and select “Add a Network”.

     

    5. A new window will appear prompting you to enter information about the network you would like to create. In the “Network SSID” field enter “connectWestSEC”. (Note: The Network SSID field is case sensitive.  You must enter the name of the network exactly for it to connect correctly.) In the “Security” field, select “WPA2 PSK”.

    6. On the next screen, you will be prompted to enter additional information about the network. In the field labeled “EAP Method”, select “PEAP” from the list of options. In the “Phase 2 Authentication” field, select “MSCHAPV2” from the drop-down menu.

    7. In the fields labeled “Identity” and “Password”, please enter your specific login credentials. For “Identity”, enter the first portion of your UWG e-mail. For instance, an individual with the email address jdoe24@my.westga.edu would enter jdoe24 as their identity.

    STUDENTS: In the password field, enter the last two digits of your birth year and the last four digits of your SSN (no spaces). 

    FACULTY and STAFF: In the password field, enter your Windows Domain Account Password. 

    When finished, click “Save”.

    8. You are now connected to connectWestSEC.

  • Nook

    1. In order to successfully complete these instructions, your Nook must be on campus and able to connect to the wireless network.

     2. From the home screen, click on the “Wireless” icon located in the lower right-hand corner.

     

    3. A “Quick Settings” window will appear above the home screen. Please make sure that “Wi-Fi” is moved to the “On” position. Now, click on the “gear” icon located in the upper right-hand corner.

     

    4. A clicking on the “gear” icon, the “Settings” screen will now appear on the screen. Under “Device Settings”, click “Wireless”.

     

    5. After making this selection, a new screen will appear listing all of the available networks in range. At the bottom of the list, click “Other Network”.

     

    6. A new window will appear prompting you to enter information about the network you would like to create. In the “Network SSID” field enter “connectWestSEC”. In the “Security” field, select “802.1x EAP”. In the password field, enter the password associated with your UWG account. 

     

    In the fields labeled “Login” and “Wireless password”, please enter your specific login credentials. For “Login”, enter the first portion of your UWG e-mail. For instance, an individual with the email address jdoe24@my.westga.edu would enter “jdoe24” as their identity.

    STUDENTS: In the password field, enter the last two digits of your birth year and the last four digits of your SSN (no spaces). 

    FACULTY and STAFF: In the password field, enter your domain account password. 

    When finished, click “Connect”.

     

    7. You are now connected to connectWestSEC.

     

     

  •  iPad (Manual Setup)

    1. In order to successfully complete these instructions, your iPad must be on campus and able to connect to the wireless network.

    2. From the home screen, click on the “Settings”    icon. 

     

    3. Open the list of wireless networks by selecting “Wi-Fi” from the “Settings” menu. From the list of wireless networks, select “Other”. 

     

     

    4. After selecting “Other”, you will be prompted to enter the name of the network you would like to add along with additional information about the specific network. Enter “connectWestSEC” in the “Name” field (Note: the Name field is case sensitive.  You must enter the network name exacatly as it appears). To select the appropriate network security settings, click on the arrow in the “Security” field. To select the appropriate network security settings, click on the arrow in the “Security” field. From the options, select “WPA2 Enterprise”.

     

    After making this selection, you will be prompted to enter your login credentials. In the “Username” field, enter the first portion of your UWG e-mail. For instance, an individual with the email address jdoe24@my.westga.edu would enter jdoe24 as their username. 


    STUDENTS: In the password field, enter the last two digits of your birth year and the last four digits of your SSN (no spaces). 

    FACULTY and STAFF: In the password field, enter your domain account password. 

    When finished, click “Join”.

     5. You will then be directed to a screen asking for you to accept the certificate associated with the connectWest network. Click “Accept”.   

     

     

    6. Under “Settings”, “connectWestSEC” will now be listed as a network and will join whenever the device is in range.

     

     

  • Mac OS

    1. In order to successfully complete these instructions, your MacBook must be on campus and able to connect to the connectWest wireless network. 

    2. On your desktop, please click on the wireless icon    and select “connectWest” from the list of available networks.  

    3. After joining this network, open your web browser. A welcome screen will appear prompting you to select your affiliation (Student/Faculty/Staff or Guest)  Select Student/Faculty/Staff.

    4. You will be prompted to further select your affiliation: Student or Faculty/Staff.  Select the appropriate affiliation.

    5. Based on your affiliation, you will be given instructions regarding your username and password.  READ THIS CAREFULLY to determine your username and password.  You will need this information for later steps.  Click on the "Continue" button to continue.

    6. Accept the Terms and Agreement for the End-user License Agreement and click “Start”.

     

     Note: After clicking “Start” you may be directed to the screen below. It will prompt you to manually load Xpress Connect to your machine. Depending on the browser you are using, click on the neighboring hyperlink and follow the download instructions. 

     

    Prior to downloading XpressConnect, a window will appear providing you with the option to continue with the download or to cancel it. To continue, click “Open”.

     

    7. In the spaces provide, please enter your assigned username and password and click “Continue” when finished. Note: Your username and password information was given to you in step 5 above. Please refer to the instructions you received on that page for your username and password.

     

    8. After clicking “Continue”, you will be prompted to enter your login credentials. This is just a standard security precaution that is in place because adding the “connectWest” profile to your machine will change its settings. These changes will not harm your laptop or adversely interfere with its functionality.

     

    9. A new screen will appear confirming that you have successfully connected to wireless network. Click “Done” to complete the process.

     

     

  • Windows 7

     

     

    1. In order to successfully complete these instructions, your laptop must be on campus and be able to connect to the connectWest  wireless network.  Also, you must be able to access the wireless network sharing center on your Windows PC.

    2. From your wireless network list, select “connectWest” and connect to the network.

     

    3. After joining this network, open your web browser. A "Welcome" screen will appear prompting you to select your affiliation (Student/Faculty/Staff or Guest).  Select Student/Faculty/Staff.

  • Windows XP

     

    1. In order to successfully complete these instructions, your laptop must be on campus and able to connect to the connectWest wireless network.

    2. From your wireless network list, select “connectWest” and connect to the network.

     

    3. After joining this network, open your web browser. A "Welcome" screen will appear prompting you to select your affiliation (Student/Faculty/Staff or Guest).  Select Student/Faculty/Staff. Note: If this page does not appear, attempt to visit another non-UWG webpage.  This should result in the Welcome page appearing.

    Note: While trying to connect to connectWest, a window may appear indicating that there is a wireless utility conflict. To resolve this, you, first, must be logged in as the administrator for your machine or have access to administrator’s password. With this in place, simply click “Continue” to resolve the issue.

     

    8. A new screen will appear confirming that you have successfully connected to the connectWestSEC wireless network. Click “Done” to complete the process.

     

     

  • Android OS Jellybean

     

    1. In order to successfully complete these instructions, your device must be on campus and able to connect to the wireless network.

    2. Open the list of wireless networks by selecting “Wi-Fi” from the “Settings” menu. Click the "+" button located at the bottom of the page.

     

    3. You will be prompted to enter the name of the network along with additional information about the network. Enter “connectWestSEC” in the “Network SSID” field (Note: The Network SSID field is case sensitive. You must enter the network name exactly as it appears). To select the appropriate network security settings, choose “WPA/WPA2 PSK” from the drop-down menu. Click “Save” when finished.

     

    4. After making this selection, “connectWestSEC” will appear on your list of available wireless networks. Click on “connectWestSEC”.

    3. After selecting “Add Network”, you will be prompted to enter the name of the network along with additional information about the network. To select the appropriate network security settings, choose “WPA/WPA2 PSK” from the drop-down menu. Click “Save” when finished.
