The Blackwell Prize in Painting recognizes an artist of high achievement in plein air/observational painting, drawing, or related two-dimensional medium. It comes with a $10,000 honorarium and a residency of up to one month at Gray Cottage in Newnan, Georgia (part of the Newnan Artist-in-Residence Program). Named in honor of Newnan-based educators (and UWG alumni) Fred R. and Nell W. Blackwell, the Blackwell Prize is administered by the School of the Arts (SOTA) at the University of West Georgia and funded by The Blackwell Charitable Trust of Newnan.
