Academic advising is a critical component of the educational experience. In line with the philosophy of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA), the academic advisement program empowers students to take charge of their educational careers through a collaborative relationship between advisor and student. Toward this end, students learn to develop and implement sound educational plans that are consistent with their personal values and career goals.
If you are an undeclared major, you can seek advisement at the Excel Center for Academic Success. Honors students can contact the Honors College for academic advising. If this apply to you, please contact your major department and they will help you locate the appropriate advisor.

It is important to become familiar with the requirements of both your major and the core curriculum so that you and your advisor can work together to keep your studies on track for graduation. The Academic Catalog lays out for you all of the requirements necessary to meet your core requirements. There are often multiple classes that can fill a core requirement, however, and you and your advisor should work to choose those classes which will serve for both the core and for your major requirements.
