  • Excellence in Research Award

    College of Science and Mathematics

     

    The Dean’s Office is pleased to announce the Excellence in Research award. The award is designed to recognize a faculty member for their outstanding contributions to scholarship during the calendar year 2018. The College will make an award of $1000 to one faculty member, for faculty development along during FY20 with a plaque recognizing their achievement.

    Eligibility: The awards are open to all full-time faculty members. Preference will be given to faculty members who have not received such an award this past year.

    Application materials:
    • A summary (2 pages maximum) of the faculty member’s scholarly accomplishments during calendar year 2018. The summary may include activities such as published articles, refereed conference proceedings, talks given, funded grants, published books or book chapters, editorial work, conference or seminar involvement, and any other work that contributes to his or her scientific discipline. 
    • One letter of support from a departmental colleague or chair. 
    • Curriculum vitae (3 pages maximum). 
    • Any additional evidentiary documents that demonstrate excellence in scholarship. Examples include reprints of published articles, photocopies of paperwork showing conference activity, grant materials, copies of paperwork from professional organizations. 
       

    Awards Committee:
    The applications will be reviewed by the COSM Advisory Committee.

    Deadline:  February 15, 2019

    All applications must be submitted via email to the Greg Payne, gpayne@westga.edu. The award will be announced at the April COSM meeting.

  • Excellence in Service Award

    College of Science and Mathematics

     

    The Dean’s Office is pleased to announce the COSM Excellence in Service award. The award is designed to recognize faculty, staff or a team for their outstanding contributions to service and/or local community engagement in 2018. The College will make an award of $500 to the winners(s), to be used towards professional development during FY20 along with a plaque recognizing their achievements.

    Eligibility: The awards are open to all full-time COSM employees. Preference will be given to candidates who have not received such an award during the past year.

    Application materials:
    • A summary (2 pages maximum) of the candidates’ service activities during the calendar year 2018, discussing the impact of the work carried out. 
    • At least one letter of support from their supervisor (or department colleague if the candidate is a department chair) and/or community organization (an internal letter is required).
       

    Awards Committee:
    The applications will be reviewed by the COSM Advisory Committee.

    Deadline:  February 15, 2019

  • Excellence in Teaching Award

    College of Science and Mathematics

     

    The Dean’s Office is pleased to announce its Excellence in Teaching award. The award is designed to recognize faculty members for their outstanding contributions to teaching and student learning with particular emphasis on activities in the last two years. The College will make an award of $1000 to one faculty member, to be used towards faculty development during FY20 along with a plaque recognizing their achievements.

    Eligibility: The awards are open to all full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty members, lecturers and instructors (but not limited term ones). Preference will be given to applicants who have not received such an award during the past two years.

    Application materials:
    • A summary (2 pages maximum) of the faculty member’s teaching and student-related activities during the calendar year 2018. 
      One letter of support from a departmental colleague or chair. 
    • Curriculum vitae (3 pages maximum). 
    • Any additional evidentiary documents that demonstrate excellence in teaching and other student-related activities from the past 2 years.  Examples include teaching evaluations, peer evaluations of classroom teaching, samples of student projects directed by the faculty member, evidence of curriculum or program development, evidence of substantial involvement in advising or extra-curricular work. 
       

    Awards Committee:
    The applications will be reviewed by the COSM Advisory Committee.

  • Outstanding Staff Award

    2019 College of Science and Mathematics
     

    The Dean’s Office is pleased to announce its annual Outstanding Staff award, and calls for nominations. The award is designed to recognize a COSM staff member for outstanding performance in carrying out their responsibilities and for their overall contributions to the University. The College will award a staff member with $500 to be used, through their department, for the staff member’s professional needs in FY20, along with a plaque recognizing their achievement.

    Eligibility:The awards are open to all full-time and part-time COSM staff members, including lab coordinators. An individual who wins the award is not eligible in the following year.

    Nomination process:
    • Nominations consisting a letter of support (not more than 2 pages long) can be made by any member of the College of Science and Mathematics Community (faculty, staff, or student), and must be endorsed by the nominee’s supervisor (if not the nominator). The letter must address their achievements in 2017. Nominations must be submitted via email to the Greg Payne, gpayne@westga.edu.

    Awards Committee:
    The applications will be reviewed by the COSM Advisory Committee and the winner will be announced at the April COSM meeting.

    Deadline:  February 15, 2019
