Pam Hunt Kirk is Assistant Professor of Sociology and Director of the Center for the
Study of Social Dynamics. Dr. Kirk earned her doctoral degree in sociology from Kent
State University in 2008 with a concentration in Structural Social Psychology.
Her primary research focuses on investigating meaning structures in subgroups and
subcultures. In recent years, she has utilized data collected in a music subculture
to examine the mechanisms by which the meanings associated with social concepts in
this subculture vary. Currently, she is investigating several issues within the LGBTQ
community. She has general research & teaching interests in social psychology, deviance,
sexualities, mental health, and research methods.
In January 2013, Dr. Kirk published a book with Cognella Academic Publishing entitled Where
the Music Takes You: The Social Psychology of Music Subcultures.
She has published in Social Psychology Quarterly, Deviant Behavior, and The Journal
of Professional and Public Sociology. She has presented her research at such professional
conferences as the American Sociological Association, the Society for the Study of
Social Problems, the Southern Sociological Society, the Mid-South Sociological Association,
the Society for the Study of Symbolic Interaction, and the North Central Sociological
Association.
