IMPORTANT : The Georgia History and Constitution Proficiency Exams are available to transfer students who have already taken and passed the equivalent of HIST 2111/2112 or POLS 1101/2201/4211 out of state. If you have not fulfilled any history or political science course requirements, you must take the UWG course instead of these exams.

  • GA History & GA Constitution Proficiency Exams are offered once a semester. Examinees will be required to show photo ID.
  • A $10 testing fee is associated with both the GA History and the GA Constitution exams. Additionally, we will offer individual appointments for testing if you are unable to register for our regularly scheduled exams each semester.

GA History Exam

  • Required text: Georgia Odyssey: A Short History of the State by James C. Cobb (2nd ed.) ISBN-10: 0820330507
  • The textbook is available via UWG library or online textbook retailers. Please reach out to the Testing Center if you cannot locate a copy of this text, we have books available for loan.
  • The exam consists of 20 multiple choice questions.
  • Passing requires a score of 60% or better.
  • Students have two chances to take the exam. This exam is administered once per semester. If the student is still unsuccessful after the second attempt, completion of an additional course may be required. 

 

GA Constitution Exam

  • Required text: GA State Politics: The Constitutional Foundation (5th Edition) by Lee M. Allen & Richard Saegar. ISBN-13: 978-0757510618 / ISBN-10: 0757510612
  • The textbook is available via UWG library or through online textbook retailers. Please reach out to the Testing Center if you cannot located a copy of this text, we have books available for loan.
  • The exam consists of 45 multiple choice questions.
  • Passing requires a score of 60% or better.
  • Students have two chances to take the exam. This exam is administered once per semester. If the student is still unsuccessful after the second attempt, completion of an additional course may be required.

 

Please note: Students who take AP, CLEP and IB Exams and receive credit for HIST 2111 or 2112 or POLS 1101 will not have satisfied the GA History and Constitution requirements and will need to take the GA History and/or Constitution exam(s).

Registration for GA History and/or GA Constitution Exam

 Retest deadlines if testing during anticipated graduation semester:

April 1st (Spring semester) / July 1st (Summer semester) / November 1st (Fall semester)

 

Parking information: Parking for tests administered in the UWG Testing Office is the Tyus Hall Lot; note the ATM at the edge of the lot and UWG Student Health Services Building. See UWG Campus Map for details, and locate Strozier Hall for the Academic Testing Center location. Please do not forget the steps referenced above including photo ID that is required for testing.

COVID Guidelines for Testing

In accordance with the CDC and USG guidelines for COVID19, the instructions below should be followed when arriving at the Testing Center in Strozier Hall:

  1. Effective immediately, fully vaccinated individuals at University System of Georgia (USG) institutions, including the University of West Georgia, can resume campus classes and other activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing themselves from others, in alignment with updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and USG.

    Unvaccinated individuals are strongly encouraged to get a vaccine, to continue wearing a face covering, and to continue physically distancing from others when possible.
  2. When entering Strozier Hall, if others are present in the lobby or main office, stay a minimum of 6 feet away from other people in the waiting area. Signage will be available to direct you to an available seat. The Testing Center Staff will greet you in the lobby at the time of your testing appointment. 
  3. If you need assistance, please wait in the lobby if someone is already being helped in the front office until they exit.
  4. Hand sanitizing stations will be available in the lobby, locker room and testing rooms. Please be sure to sanitize your hands upon entrance and exit of the Testing Center and any other entry points. 
  5. Testing check-in will be done individually and the Testing Center staff will provide you with further instructions at the time of your appointment to ensure a safe testing experience for everyone.
  6. If you are experiencing any symptoms associated with COVID19, please call the Testing Center to reschedule your test.
