Ramblin’ with Rusty: ACM and ACM-W host discussion with UWG CS and Math alum and technology entrepreneur Rusty West
A group of University of West Georgia Computer Science students recently had the opportunity to talk with UWG CS and Mathematics alum and technology entrepreneur Rusty West ‘88. The event, held on October 21, 2021, was organized by the UWG student chapters of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and ACM-W (Women in Computing).
Rusty was back in Carrollton for UWG’s Homecoming 2021 celebrations and stopped by to chat with students about coding, technology new and old, entrepreneurship, challenges and opportunities in developing and running a successful business, and a bit of life in general. He enjoyed hearing about students’ interests and career goals and sharing personal experiences from his time at then West Georgia College and in the years since. Students likewise had a great time “ramblin’” with Rusty and asking questions about technology and the business world.
Alexander Ayers, one of the students who attended the event, said “Rusty was very insightful and entertaining. He speaks with a level of profound wisdom and pronounced life experience that I am happy to have met the man.” Another student, Furichious Jones, remarked that “Ramblin with Rusty was a great experience, genuinely haven’t enjoyed a conversation concerning computer science and business as much as his takes and stories.”
Rusty is the President and CEO of California-based Market Scan Information Systems, Inc., “a leading provider of technology and analytical solutions for the various stakeholders in the automotive industry.”
