Scholarship Guidelines

  1. In order to be awarded a scholarship in the Richards College of Business, a student must be accepted for admission or currently enrolled at the University of West Georgia and be a Richards College of Business major or pre-major.
  2. Due date for 2023-2024 scholarship applications: April 1, 2024. Except as specified in individual scholarship descriptions and award agreements, the following additional guidelines apply:
    1. Priority consideration will be given to students who are enrolled full time for both Fall and Spring semesters.
    2. Scholarship awards are for one year and must be applied for annually.
    3. Scholarships are not awarded to students who are classified as non-resident aliens.
    4. Awards are generally disbursed in two equal payments at the beginning of Fall and Spring terms.

Duncan-Templeton Agency Scholarship Endowment

This scholarship will be awarded annually by a scholarship committee within the Richards College of Business to one student meeting the following criteria: minimum 2.5 GPA, majoring within a Richards College of Business degree program, Junior or greater, and demonstrates financial need.

OFS Academic Experiential Learning Scholarship

This scholarship provides four years of funding for an incoming freshman. The amount of the award is $7,188 per year. The scholarship will include a paid summer internship at OFS in Carrollton, GA (freshman, sophomore, and junior years), and learning experiences that include mentorship, attending business meetings, and opportunities to contribute through projects connecting knowledge gained in the classroom to the business environment.                                                           

Mr. and Mrs. Murray M. Webb Scholarship

This scholarship is for the purpose of attracting superior students to the Richards College of Business in order to enhance the overall academic quality of graduate programs.  Each year the Dean’s Office will select a top MBA candidate as the recipient of the scholarship.

Kennard Seforth Varn Scholarship

The scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding student majoring in business at the University of West Georgia.  The recipient should be a resident of Ware County or an adjacent county:  (Clinch, Atkinson, Coffee, Bacon, Pierce, Brantley, or Charlton).

Pilgrim's Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship shall be awarded annually to a business major with a GPA of 3.0 or greater who is from one of the following five counties:  Carroll, Heard, or Haralson in Georgia and Cleburne or Randolph in Alabama.

Hugh W. Richards Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a rising junior or senior majoring in business at the University of West Georgia.  Selection is based on demonstrated academic ability and promise as well as need.

Fred Hutchins Scholarship Endowment

This scholarship is awarded to at least two students (one graduate and one undergraduate) who have and maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.  The student(s) must have graduated from a high school within Carroll County or be a Carroll County resident or employed by a Carroll County banking institution.  Selection is also based on strong moral character and a sense of responsibility to the community.

Major General John A. Beall Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a business school major in the Richards College of Business based on academic success and financial need.

Yeager Family Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate junior or senior majoring in business with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.  The scholarship may be renewed for an additional academic year provided the recipient meets the requirements. 

Charles W. Cox Memorial Scholarship Fund

The purpose of this fund is to help attract superior students to the Richards College of Business who will enhance the overall academic quality of both graduate and undergraduate programs.  This scholarship will be designated for MBA graduate students, as well as junior or senior undergraduate students majoring in Finance, Management, or Marketing.

Henry M. Cameron Scholarship

This scholarship shall be awarded annually to a sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in Management at the University of West Georgia.  The recipient must be a resident of Carroll, Polk, or Troup County or from the State of Georgia.  Selection shall be based on merit and financial need.

McLeod Family Scholarship

This scholarship shall be awarded annually to a business major maintaining a 2.8 GPA or higher from the five-county west Georgia region.  Strong preference will be given to a working student supporting a family.    

James B. Lipham Scholarship

This scholarship shall be awarded annually to a full-time business major.  The student must be an entering freshman with a minimum high school GPA of 3.0 and a minimum combined SAT score of 1012 or ACT Composite score of 21.  Priority will be given to a student residing in Muscogee County, and financial need will be a consideration.  The scholarship is renewable for four years so long as the recipient maintains full-time status, a minimum GPA of 3.0 and is an active participant in any UWG sanctioned campus organization.  

Lindsey and Genet Barron Business Scholarship

This scholarship shall be awarded annually to a business major with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Preference will be given to students majoring in Marketing or Real Estate, students who have a financial need, and students from Newnan, Georgia.  

Tim and Dede Brown Business Scholarship

This scholarship shall be awarded annually to a business major with financial need and a minimum GPA of 2.0.  Priority will be given to a Veteran with past leadership experience, a desire to succeed, and demonstrated effort.

Dr. Faye S. McIntyre Honorary Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a female business major in the Richards College of Business who has demonstrated academic ability and leadership skills.  

Suzanne Lankford Sullivan Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is to be awarded to a Management major with financial need.

Rotary Club of Carrollton Dawnbreakers Endowment

This scholarship will be awarded to a junior or senior business major with a 3.0 or higher GPA who has financial need.  The recipient needs to show they actively volunteer in community, civic or educational activities and submit an essay describing how they put "Service Above Self."  

Angela Kirk and Michael McConnell Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a student athlete (preference given to cheerleading, football and softball) who is majoring in business.  The recipient needs to show financial need and have a GPA of 2.7 or greater.  

Angelene Barker Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a junior or senior business major with a 2.5 GPA or higher.  Preference will be given to a first generation college student.

Suzanne Lankford Sullivan Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is to be awarded to an Economics major with financial need.

W. Glenn Moore Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship recipient shall be a student in the Economics program at the University of West Georgia.

Dr. Michael D. Raper Memorial Scholarship

These scholarship recipients shall be Economics majors with a 3.0 GPA or higher. Multiple scholarships awarded annually.

Homer A. Hunt Scholarship

This scholarship recipient shall be a sophomore, junior, or senior who intends to complete a four-year B.B.A. degree in Economics at the University of West Georgia. 

Economics Departmental Award

This scholarship shall be awarded to Economics majors who have a minimum 3.0 GPA and have completed two principles of economics courses.  Up to four scholarships will be awarded.

Dutt Endowed Award

This scholarship shall be awarded annually for the purpose of presenting undergraduate research at an off-campus conference.  Students must submit a faculty recommendation to the awarding committee which will consist of the Richards College of Business Dean and the Economics Department Chair and/or their designee.  The recipient should be a junior or senior majoring in Economics who must be the primary oral presenter at an off-campus conference.

Gustafson Student Travel Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded annually to an Economics major who is participating in an RCOB sanctioned travel/study abroad opportunity.  Preference will be given to a student who is from Carroll, Heard, Haralson, Polk, Coweta, or Douglas Counties, maintaining a 3.0 GPA.  Preference will also be given to a student who has never traveled abroad and can show financial need.  

Norton Family Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Norton Family Economics Endowed Scholarship Fund will be awarded annually by a scholarship committee within the Richards College of Business. The recipients(s) of the award must be majoring in Economics, be a non-athlete, minimum CPA of 3.5, have an expected Family Contribution(EFC), which makes the student ineligible for Pell Grant, and meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements.

 

Brian Bell Scholarship

This scholarship is to be awarded annually by a committee within the Accounting and Finance Department with the following criteria: minimum GPA of 2.5 and a student who show extraordinary aptitude.

Donna and Wayne Tervo Accounting Scholarship

This scholarship is to be awarded annually by a committee within the Accounting and Finance Department to a rising junior, senior, or graduate student(s) majoring in Accounting with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.  Two scholarships will be awarded.

Garrett, Thomas, & Fazio, P.C., Scholarship

This scholarship is to be awarded to a junior, senior, or graduate student from Carroll, Haralson, Polk, or Heard Counties majoring in Accounting.  Financial need is considered.  The department will choose the recipient. 

Eugene O. Poindexter Endowment Fund

This scholarship will be awarded annually by a committee within the Accounting and Finance Department to a Finance student.

Jack E. Threadgill, Sr. Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is to be awarded to a junior or senior Accounting student with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.  Preference will be given to students actively involved in volunteer community or ministry work and to students with financial need.  Recipients will only be eligible to receive the scholarship on a one-time basis.

Jimmy Couch Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is to be awarded to a Carroll County junior or senior majoring in Accounting.  The award is based on need and a GPA of at least 3.0.  The department will choose the recipient.

Naomi L. Satterfield Scholarship

This award will be designated to a junior or senior accounting major.  The student must have completed Accounting Principles, Intermediate Accounting I, and one other accounting course in the major; be employed at least part-time and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.  The department will choose the recipient.

Paul Baker Honorary Scholarship 

This scholarship is to be awarded to an undergraduate Accounting major with a 3.0 minimum GPA.  The Accounting and Finance Department will choose the recipient.

Jeffries-Best Scholarship 

This scholarship is to be awarded to an undergraduate Finance major with a 3.0 minimum GPA.    The Accounting and Finance Department will choose the recipient.

Bryant Hodges Scholarship 

This scholarship is to be awarded to an undergraduate Finance major with a minimum 2.5 GPA.  The Accounting and Finance Department will choose the recipient.

The Liu and Chen Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded annually by the Accounting and Finance Department to a student majoring in Accounting.

Helen Harper Burton Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is to be awarded annually by the Marketing and Real Estate Department to a student majoring in Marketing or Real Estate with a GPA of 2.75 or higher.  Preference will be given to a student who is interested in a career in sales and is in a leadership position in a UWG sanctioned campus organization or athletic team.

Fernando Susach Student Travel Scholarship Endowment

This scholarship will be awarded annually by a scholarship committee within the Richards College of Business to a student(s) meeting the following criteria: minimum 3.0 GPA and must be studying abroad for the first time. Preference shall be given to students majoring in Economics, and who demonstrate financial need. However, if no economic majors can be selected, the committee may award to another major within the Richards College of Business.  

 Zach and Kate Rogers Scholarship

This scholarship shall be awarded annually preferably to a business student that has never studied abroad before and demonstrates financial need.

Harry B. Alderman Scholarship

The scholarship shall be awarded annually to two business students participating in a study abroad program with financial need, limited travel experience and a GPA of at least 2.5.

Gustafson Student Travel Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded annually to an Economics major who is participating in an RCOB sanctioned travel/study abroad opportunity. Preference will be given to a student who is from Carroll, Heard, Haralson, Polk, Coweta, or Douglas Counties, maintaining a 3.0 GPA.
