The Department of Music has the following organizations at UWG:

  • CNAfME

Being among the world's largest arts education organizations, the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) is the only association that addresses all aspects of music education. NAfME advocates at the local, state, and national levels; provides resources for teachers, parents, and administrators; hosts professional development events; and offers a variety of opportunities for students and teachers. The Association orchestrates success for millions of students nationwide and has supported music educators at all teaching levels for more than a century.

Since 1907, NAfME has worked to ensure that every student has access to a well-balanced, comprehensive, and high-quality program of music instruction taught by qualified teachers. NAfME’s activities and resources have been largely responsible for the establishment of music education as a profession, for the promotion and guidance of music study as an integral part of the school curriculum, and for the development of the National Standards for Arts Education. The organization at the college level is known as the Collegiate National Association for Music Education, or CNAfME.

  • Phi Delta Musicus

Phi Delta CrestPhi Delta Musicus is a co-ed music service fraternity at UWG. The fraternity was formed in Fall 2005 when a group of about thirty men met to discuss forming a music organization. After much discussion, it was decided that they would not charter a chapter from other organizations but would instead create a brand new one. By January 2006 nine remained to organize this fraternity. These nine founders were Armand Tyson, Cory Speakman, Daniel Gray, Jared Ivey, Jeremy Massengill, Jessie Tomes, Jon DeLoach, Matt Scoggins, and Nick Silvestri. Together these nine men worked together with Jared Ivey at the lead and Faculty Advisor Dr. John Bleuel to create what would become Phi Delta Musicus. Phi Delta was officially founded on August 18, 2006. The fraternity has now crossed 58 members total. Phi Delta has done a variety of activities to raise money for and serve the UWG Music Department. Some of these include: Paint Fight, Car Bash, setting up/breaking down ensembles, assisting at Destination: Music & Saxophone Symposium, performing at Horizon Bay Retirement Living, cleaning practice rooms, providing a 5x5 UWG Band Logo and photographs for the band room, donating money for concerts, providing water for the marching band, breaking down equipment at practice, Valentine's Day flower sale, and bake sales.

  • Kappa Kappa Psi

Kappa Kappa PsiKappa Kappa Psi is a co-ed national honorary band fraternity. The fraternity was formed in the fall of 1919. The Lambda Eta chapter at the University of West Georgia was chartered on June 14th, 2004 by thirteen men of music and Dr. Douglas Overmier, who served as their faculty sponsor. Kappa Kappa Psi has done a variety of activities to raise money for and serve the band programs here at UWG. These include: music stand maintenance, rehearsal area clean up, restaurant spirit nights, bake sales, staging events in Cashen Recital Hall, and work at the Saxophone Symposium and other events. Kappa Kappa Psi also cooperates with other musical organizations on various ensemble set ups and breakdowns throughout the year. In the summer of 2015, all music organizations were given a renewable contract at the Georgia Renaissance Festival and by volunteering together they raised about $11,000 for the music department every summer, which this money is donated to the department for student scholarships. Dr. Cale Self serves as the faculty sponsor to the Lambda Eta chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi.
