Interdisciplinary Conference in the Social Sciences
October 4th, 2018
Hosted by the University of West Georgia College of Social Sciences
Theme: Community Risk and Resilience
Rural and exurban communities today face face a number of challenges, such as depopulation,
encroaching urban sprawl, lack of opportunity, economic inequality, crime, domestic
violence, and many other threats combine to create a barrier to community progress
for many areas across the United States today, including the rural south.
With the University of West Georgia College of Social Sciences’ mission of “Serving Humanity and Doing Public Good,” our faculty seek to advance the inquiry and conversation about the future challenges and potential opportunities of communities.
The College of Social Sciences at the University of West Georgia is hosting its first interdisciplinary conference in the social sciences, focused on the theme of Communities at Risk. This conference is open to all students, faculty, staff, and community researchers. The challenges facing communities today invite approaches. As a result we will consider proposals for projects from across the social sciences and beyond, with an emphasis on those focusing on the conference theme.
