Supporting our majors in their academic pursuits is a priority for The Department of Mass Communications. That's why each year we offer scholarship opportunities for achieving students in financial need.

  • Dora Byron Memorial Scholarship

    Requirements:
    Incoming freshman female
    High school average of “B” or better
    Demonstrated interest in journalism (and plans to declare a Mass Communications major)

    Other considerations:
    Recipients must maintain a “B” (3.0) average or better while at West Georgia, and must commit to writing at least one article per semester for The West Georgian.
    Not available every year

  • Frances Parkman Memorial Scholarship

    Requirements:
    Rising junior or senior (completed 30 hours)
    Minimum 2.5 GPA
    Demonstrated interest in mass communications

    Other considerations:
    Financial need as determined by Student Financial Services
    Participation in extracurricular activities especially on the staff of The West Georgian.

  • David S. Parkman III Scholarship

    Requirements:
    Rising junior or senior (completed 30 hours)
    Demonstrated interest in convergence journalism
    Minimum 2.5 GPA after completing 30 hours of college credit.

    Other considerations:
    Participation in extracurricular activities especially on the staff of The West Georgian
    Priority given to a student from Carroll County

  • George Fields Whatley Scholarship

    Requirements:
    Financially deserving
    Major in Mass Communications with concentration in convergence journalism

  • Margaret Gauther Mass Comm Scholarship

    Requirements:
    Major in Mass Communications with concentration in speech communication
    Minimum 3.0 GPA after completing 45 hours of college credit
    Financial need as determined by Student Financial Services
