Scholarships
School of Communication, Film, and Media Scholarships
Supporting our majors in their academic pursuits is a priority for The School of Communication, Film, and Media (SCFM). That's why each year we offer scholarship opportunities for achieving students in financial need. SCFM scholarships are awarded in the spring for the upcoming academic year. Applicants should complete the application and include their resume and essay (cover letter). Please see the scholarship descriptions below to prepare your resume and essay. Amanda Lucey Endowed Scholarship
Recipient Criteria: Students with a major within the School of Communication, Film, and Media that are first generation college students and demonstrate a financial need. Preference is given to students involved in campus-wide activities and experiential learning.
Claire Abreu Webber Communication Scholarship
Recipient Criteria: Students must be in a School of Communication, Film, and Media major. Priority is given to students who are active in WUTV and WOLF Radio.
David Stanley Parkman III Mass Communications Scholarship
Recipient Criteria: Priority will be given to juniors and seniors pursuing a career in journalism who have attained a minimum 2.5 GPA after completing 30 hours of college credit. Preference will be given to students participating in extracurricular activities, and special consideration given to staff members of The West Georgian. Priority will also be given to students from Carroll County.

Recipients must be a female student; have a declared major in Mass Communications; commit to publishing at least one article per semester in one of UWG's collegiate media outlets; maintain a B average or better while at UWG; and be a sophomore who has demonstrated interest in Journalism. *The scholarship will be paid out at the beginning of the recipient's first semester as a sophomore. This scholarship is RENEWABLE as long as the above criteria are met. The maximum payout to a student at UWG is 9 academic semesters. The recipient may stop taking classes at UWG for up to 2 semesters without losing eligibility for the award. The contingency is built into the agreement to allow the recipient time to handle personal matters or to take a temporary writing job. If the recipient becomes ineligible, the scholarship shall be awarded to the next appropriate sophomore and shall not be paid out until an eligible sophomore is determined.
Frances Parkman Memorial Scholarship
Recipient Criteria: Students must be a full-time undergraduate student with a major within the School of Communication, Film, and Media with a GPA of 2.5 or better. Priority will be given to students focusing on journalism, students from Carroll County, and students participating in extracurricular programs on campus.
George Fields Whatley Scholarship
Recipient Criteria: Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 with a major within the School of Communication, Film, and Media and demonstrate a financial need. Preference is given to journalism students.
Margaret Gauthier Mass Communications Scholarship
Recipient Criteria: Students must be in a major within the School of Communication, Film, and Media with an emphasis on Speech and must have attained a minimum 3.0 GPA after completing 45 hours of college credit. Financial need may be a consideration and will be screened through the UWG Office of Financial Aid.
