USGG-4050 The Psychology of European Ghosts and Paranormal Experiences
Description
Portugal is a melting pot for myths, folklore, and a variety of anomalous/exceptional experiences. There are stories of mythical creatures (including forest spirits or duende), sites associated with mystery and ghosts, other sightings of ghosts and folkloric characters (including Moura; a shapeshifting entity), Second sight (extrasensory perception), mediumship, miraculous healings, and the belief in unseen nocturnal spirits (the Santa Compana) among other phenomena. This course will critically explore the psychology of anomalous experiences, including personality and other correlates of experiences, dissociation and altered states, creativity, synesthesia, hallucinations, earth lights, etc.
