(UWG) Language and Culture in Vienna

Language and Culture in Vienna is a four-week immersive study abroad experience that combines intensive German-language study with the opportunity to learn the history and culture of Vienna and Austria. Students learn from native speakers at a top language academy, and from UWG about the history, culture, and politics of Austria, and more generally, the European Union. The purpose of the program is to promote global citizenship with a hands-on academic experience. The program combines rigorous academic programs with the opportunity to experience the music, art, and history of a major European capital city. 
 
From its famous cafe culture to music, art and architecture, Vienna will provide students with a wealth of opportunities to explore.

Participants should expect a physically active experience while in Vienna. The program will involve approximately an hour of walking each day, including in the mainly pedestrian-only inner city, navigating the public transportation system, climbing stairs, and standing for extended periods during tours and site visits. While most activities are accessible through Vienna’s extensive public transportation network, students should be prepared for a moderate level of physical activity. May and June weather in Vienna is generally mild, with average daytime temperatures ranging from 60 to 75°F (15 to 24°C), though occasional cooler days and rain are possible. It is strongly recommended that students wear or bring sturdy walking shoes and a lightweight waterproof jacket.

• UWG Tuition (paid separately)
• Touchnet payments include 3% non-refundable fee
• The program cost includes breakfast each day; however, except for the Thursday communal dinners, which are covered by the program fee, students are responsible for all other meals and personal expenses. Meal costs will vary based on individual preferences. A simple takeaway lunch, such as a sandwich and drink, typically costs $8 to $16, while casual dining generally ranges from $10 to $20 per meal. Students should budget approximately $20 to $30 per day for lunch, dinner, snacks, and beverages, although costs may be higher depending on dining choices, shopping, entertainment, and other personal spending. Students are encouraged to shop at grocery stores for most meals.

Important Notes:

• Program spots are generally first-come first-serve. The non-refundable deposit will secure your spot in the program, but if you are not accepted for any reason, then you will be reimbursed. Refunds will not be issued if you withdraw from the program at any point.

• Lack of visa/passport may result in complete loss of program fee
