Overview
Program Description:
Psychology Study Away in Puerto Rico: Mind, Body, and Culture
The psychology study away program in Puerto Rico will offer students the
experience to study psychological phenomena in a region that has long historical ties to the Caribbean while also being a part of the United States. This tension between more indigenous traditions and the contiguous country presents unique forays into understanding power, conformity, and group cohesion. Additionally, conceptions of the mind and body relationship also differ in these more indigenous accounts. Students will learn about these traditions in terms of dance, ritual, and belief. Puerto Rico and its culture provide a unique backdrop for probing foundational aspects of psychology not possible in more traditional settings.
