Have a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA and be in good academic standing
Not have any grades of Incomplete (I) or Unsatisfactory (U)
How does the application process work?
To apply, begin filling out the form. You will need to submit additional documentation depending on the type of research you are requesting funding for, and you must have approval by your faculty advisor. Once you submit your request form, it will be reviewed by a committee.
What types of research travel are allowed?
Travel grants support graduate students who need to travel to site locations outside of the metro Atlanta area to conduct research or to attend regional or national conferences where they will present their research or creative work.
When should I apply for the grant?
Make sure to submit your application ahead of the deadline for the period in which you are planning to travel. The deadlines may be found above the FAQ or on the application itself.
How are funding decisions made?
The Graduate Travel Grant Review Committee will review all applications and make decisions on how to allocate funds.
Can I be awarded more than one grant in a year?
Students may be eligible to receive more than one travel grant within a year; however, priority will be given to students submitting a request for the first time.
What can I request funding for?
Funding may be applied to transportation costs (flights, mileage, etc.), conference registration, lodging in a hotel, and other anticipated expenses, such as parking.
Please note: lodging funding may only be applied to hotels, not to AirBnB's, VRBO's, etc., and the Graduate Student Travel Grant is unable to cover food.
Do I need to keep receipts to get reimbursed?
Yes. We can only reimburse you for costs that are documented through receipts and/or invoices. All receipts must be submitted no later than two weeks after completion of travel, or two weeks after notification of award if your travel has already occurred.
Will I receive the total amount that I request?
Travel grants may be awarded up to $2,000. The committee will decide how to allocate the amount. The Graduate School cannot guarantee you will get the full, requested amount.
How will I get reimbursed?
Upon approval of your application, you will receive an email containing full instructions regarding reimbursement.
I have already traveled. Can I get reimbursed?
Yes! Students who traveled between July 1, 2025 - June 30, 2026 may be reimbursed.
