The online Post-Baccalaureate Non-degree Certification in Media (School Library Media) program is designed to prepare educators in the following ways:

Students who hold a master's degree in any field from a regionally accredited institution may apply for admission to the School Library Media Certification program. The number of hours required to complete the program depends on the prior educational background of the student. Students exit the program eligible for S-5 level certification in School Library Media (after also passing the GACE Media Specialist content exam).
Students may begin the program any semester. Specific course requirements are determined through consultation with academic advisors. Any changes in the projected sequence need to be determined jointly between student and advisor in order for the student to be able to complete the program in a timely manner.

The University of West Georgia is accredited by The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
Credit and transfer

A transfer credit evaluation will be completed by the UWG Transfer Team (email@example.com). Course application to a program is subject to review by the department.
This program is offered entirely online. Though a student may choose to sign-up for a face-to-face elective or core course, one can earn this degree completely online.
UWG is often ranked as one of the most affordable accredited university of its kind, regardless of the method of delivery chosen. In addition, online courses and programs can mean a huge cost-savings in many non-evident ways: No more high gas charges. No childcare needed. The flexibility can allow one to maintain a job while attending school. Regardless of state residency, out-of-state non-resident students are not charged non-resident tuition for online course credit hours.
- Total tuition costs and fees may vary, depending on the instructional method of the courses in which the student chooses to enroll.
- The more courses a student takes in a single term, the more they will typically save in fees and total cost.
- Face-to-Face or partially online courses are charged at the general tuition rate and all mandatory campus fees, based on the student's residency (non-residents are charged at a higher rate).
- Fully or entirely online course tuition rates and fees my vary depending on the program. Students enrolled in exclusively online courses do not pay non-Resident rates.
- Together this means that GA residents pay about the same if they take all face-to-face or partially online courses as they do if they take only fully online courses exclusively; while non-residents save money by taking fully online courses.
- One word of caution: If a student takes a combination of face-to-face and online courses in a single term, they will pay both all mandatory campus fees and the higher eTuition rate.

The number of hours required to complete the program depends on the prior educational background of the student. For applicants who enter with teaching certification, the program typically consists of 21 hours of School Library Media coursework. Students exit the program eligible for S-5 certification in School Library Media after passing the Georgia Certification exam in School Library Media.
MEDT-6465 - Selection and Materials
An overview of current materials, including all genre of print and no-print, all formats of fiction and non-fiction materials. An introduction to the criteria of evaluation and the tools and techniques used in selecting all types of materials and equipment for school library media centers.
MEDT-7461 - Instructional Technology, Media, & Design
This course prepares candidates to serve as instructional leaders in media in PK-12 schools. Candidates will use a systematic instructional design process and research-based professional learning practices to develop learning experiences that meet the needs of diverse learner populations in both physical and virtual environments.
MEDT-7474 - Online Reference Sources and Services
An introduction to reference sources and services, with, emphasis upon online sources and services, and to the development of reference skills in P-12 learners.
MEDT-7477 - Technology for Media Services
An introduction to technology for media services including basic computer operations, troubleshooting, and networking; internet issues, resources and applications; video resources and production; and technology training and instruction. MEDT 6401 or equivalent; MEDT 7461.
MEDT-7478 - Cataloging and Automating
Introduction to school library media cataloging and automation procedures including Sears, Dewey, CIP, and MARC records.
MEDT-7487 - Practicum
This course examines current issues in school media centers and examines the five roles of the school library media specialist. Documentation of all volunteer experiences completed throughout the program will be compiled. An online portfolio will be developed and prepared for sharing with peers and instructors. This course must be taken during the last semester of the program.
Guidelines for Admittance
- All graduate applicants must complete the online Grad Application. A one-time application fee of $40 is required.

- Official transcripts from a regionally or nationally accredited institution are required and should be sent directly to the UWG Admissions Office.
Program Specific Admittance Guidelines
- Master's degree in any field from a regionally accredited institution
- 2.7 GPA or higher in most recent degree
- Passing scores on the GACE Program Admission Assessment, or one of the following exemption options:
- Teacher certification
- ACT score of 43 or higher (English + Math)
- SAT score of 1000 (Verbal + Math) if taken prior to 7/1/19. If taken after 7/1/19, SAT score of 1080 (Evidence Based Reading/ Writing + Math)
- GRE score of 297 (Verbal + Quantitative) (1030 if prior to 8/1/2011)
