Why You Should Go West?

  • Academics

We are proud to welcome students from all over the world. With our dedicated International Student Club, and our Department of International Services and Programs, we strive to make the transition to becoming an American university student as easy as possible for our students. Throughout their studies, our faculty and staff take a genuine interest in helping our students to achieve their academic and personal goals. With a student-to-faculty ratio of 20:1, our students benefit from extensive personal interaction with their professors.

  • Activities

Outside of the classroom, the University of West Georgia is proud to offer over 150 student organizations and activities, both intramural sport teams and intercollegiate sport teams, and 26 different fraternities and sororities, our students have many opportunities to get involved! We are particularly proud of our International Students Club, which is a campus organization run directly by our international students. This organization puts on multiple events throughout the year, with the highlight being the annual International Night where our students are able to share their culture with the greater university community.

  • Housing/Dining

While you are a student at the University of West Georgia, you are can be certain to be well taken care of. The University is a residential campus, and we encourage all of our international students to live on campus. Our Office of Housing and Residence Life maintain many residence halls which are only a short walk from the classroom. These halls provide our students with many options, from private apartments, to a shared dorm room; all of which are fully furnished. These halls are also staffed 24-hours a day to ensure campus safety. These residence halls are also a short walk from our on-campus Dinning Services, where students can enjoy a wide range of dining options. We also offer a wide range of entertainment options and venues on campus. With all of these services on-campus, our international students do not need to worry about purchasing a vehicle. For those who do want to go off-campus, we also offer a Campus Shuttle which can transport our students around campus, and to multiple off-campus shopping and entertainment destinations.

  • Employment

Are you interested in working while you study? At the University of West Georgia, we encourage our students to work on-campus to give you the opportunity to gain experience, and earn extra income. Due to government restrictions, students are only able to work 10-20 hours per week during the academic year, and full-time during vacation periods and academic breaks. Although students are not guaranteed a position, we strive to make a variety of positions available each term. Outside of this experience, there are also government-backed programs for some students to be able to work off-campus during/after their studies. These programs are referred to Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT). Both of these options require approval by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, which our staff will be able to assist you with.

  • Financial Aid and Scholarships

The University of West Georgia has made attracting the best international students to our campus.
