Presidential Investiture

Rooted in centuries-old academic tradition, an investiture marks the formal conferral of the authority and symbols of office to a university president. At UWG, this moment will honor the institution's history, celebrate its community, and look ahead to a bold and transformative future.
Additional details about events, locations, and how to participate will be shared as plans are finalized. At this time, the information below is intended to serve as a save-the-date for the university community and invited guests.
What is an investiture?
An investiture is a ceremonial tradition dating back to the Middle Ages, when scholars and university leaders were formally entrusted with the authority of their institutions. In modern higher education, an investiture celebrates the beginning of a president's leadership and symbolizes the responsibility of advancing the university's mission.
Typically held during a president's first year of office, the ceremony brings together students, faculty, staff, alumni, trustees, elected officials, and community partners. The president's investiture address outlines a vision for the university's future and affirms the values that guide its work.
At the University of West Georgia, the investiture will serve as both a moment of reflection and a celebration of what lies ahead.
