Bhavin Patel, a University of West Georgia political science major, has been named president of the College Democrats of Georgia (CDG). Patel, a freshman from Macon, Georgia, is also pursuing a minor in business.

A Dream Come True: UWG Student Awarded Prestigious Truman Scholarship
For the second time since its creation in 1975, the Truman Foundation has awarded a scholarship to a student at the University of West Georgia. Rickia Stafford, a first-generation college student from Smyrna majoring in political science, was notified in a virtual meeting with Dr. Brendan B. Kelly, UWG president, and Dr. David Jenks, interim provost and vice president for academic affairs, that she was joining the ranks of distinguished Truman Scholars.

As the 33rd president of the United States, Harry S. Truman often spoke on the importance of promoting young leaders and envisioned a program that would encourage political responsibility. That vision led to the establishment of the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation in 1975. Today, Rickia Stafford, a forward-looking political science major at the University of West Georgia, is a finalist for a Truman Scholarship.
