Stream of Support: Coweta County Water & Sewerage Authority Establishes Endowed Scholarship for UWG Students Share this page
For most people, turning on the tap is an everyday action. For the Coweta County Water & Sewerage Authority (CCWSA), it represents something more – community service, environmental stewardship, and now, an investment in education at the University of West Georgia.

In 2019, CCWSA took a step toward shaping the future by launching the DRIP Program, which allows customers to round up their bills to support local initiatives. The most recent investment funded by the initiative is the newly endowed Coweta County Water & Sewerage Authority Endowed Scholarship at UWG.
“Partnering with UWG was an easy decision for us,” said Jay Boren, CEO of CCWSA. “We have a strong presence in Coweta County, and this partnership allows us to support students in our community while also raising awareness about the important work we do.”
Formed in 2001, CCWSA operates independently from Coweta County Government and provides water and sewerage services to residents and businesses. The Authority is deeply committed to public engagement and supporting organizations that align with its values. The new UWG scholarship is a natural extension of that mission, built to encourage local students and spotlight career paths in utilities and public service.
“The school system doesn’t typically talk about water and sewerage,” explained Boren. “No one really knows this kind of thing exists. But this scholarship gives us the opportunity to show how much can be done in this field if you’re passionate about the environment and serving the community.”
The scholarship, which is fully funded to support two students annually, is available to Coweta County residents and CCWSA employees and family members. By deepening its partnership with UWG, CCWSA hopes to raise awareness about the vital work of water and sewerage professionals and inspire a new generation of local leaders to carry that mission forward.
“We are incredibly grateful for our partnership with Coweta County Water & Sewerage Authority and for the establishment of their newly endowed scholarship” said Allyson Bretch ’14, UWG’s vice president for university advancement and CEO of the university’s philanthropic foundations. “This scholarship will provide support for our students from Coweta County, helping them to build a bright future that begins at UWG.”
