Hatton has made significant contributions to various areas of UWG, including the College of Education, the College of Arts, Culture, and Scientific Inquiry and, most recently, a second gift to the Tanner Health System School of Nursing.

His most recent gift, celebrated through the naming of a study lounge on UWG’s Carrollton campus, is a new endowment that will support nursing students through scholarship support, programmatic support and assistance for them to expand their horizons by attending national conferences, among other forms of support.

“Education has always been a passion of mine,” said Hatton. “I am thrilled to continue supporting UWG in providing students with the resources they need to succeed. The Hatton Family Study Lounge represents a space where nursing students can study, grow and ultimately shape the future of healthcare.”

The celebration in honor of Herbert was a heartwarming occasion, filled with close-knit friends and students he has worked with and impacted. The atmosphere was one of joy and gratitude, as attendees celebrated his generosity and the positive impact he has had on the university community.

“We are thrilled to honor Herbert Hatton’s generosity and commitment to education through the naming of the Hatton Family Study Lounge,” said Dr. Brendan Kelly, UWG’s president. “This space will be instrumental in providing our nursing students with an environment that promotes innovative learning. By enhancing our commitment to student success and academic excellence, we aim to curate a first-choice university, and creating spaces like this study lounge plays a significant role in advancing that effort.

The study lounge will provide a dedicated space for nursing students to study, collaborate and engage together in group projects. With a quiet and focused environment, this lounge will allow students to concentrate on their studies and enhance their learning experience.
