Young Mathematical Minds Converge for Summer Program
The University of West Georgia recently played host to a select number of exceptional undergraduate math majors through the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program. Dr. Bruce Landman, professor and chair of the Department of Mathematics, and Dr. Abdollah Khodkar, professor, served as senior faculty advisors. This year's program is the second installment of the highly competitive three-year National Science Foundation REU grant.
BB&T Continues Commitment to UWG
In 2009, the BB&T Corp. made a pledge of $1 million to the Richards College of Business. This gift established the Center for Ethics and Free Enterprise and the BB&T Lectures in Free Enterprise Series. Recently, Senior Vice President for Corporate Banking Tammy Hughes and Vice President and New Business Development Officer Rob Appleman were on campus to deliver this year's installment of $100,000.
Morelands Leave Their Legacy at UWG
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Moreland truly represent the meaning of humility. After graduating as a finance major from the University of West Georgia in 1983, Leonard Moreland and his high school sweetheart Kay have made it a goal to give back to the university that started Leonard's career.
University of West Georgia Recognized for Commitment to Sustainability
The University of West Georgia recently earned a bronze star rating from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education’s Sustainability Tracking, Assessment, and Rating System (STARS). The award is the most recent accolade received by UWG reflecting its increased commitment to renewable resources.
Summer Commencement Ceremonies Set for Saturday
The University of West Georgia's summer commencement ceremonies will be held on Saturday, July 25 at 9 a.m. in UWG's Coliseum. For those unable to attend the ceremony in person, it will also be streamed online at www.westga.edu/commencement.php. State Senator Mike Dugan will provide the commencement address.

UWG SOTA Begins Summer Film Camp
The University of West Georgia's School of the Arts is hosting the first session of Film Camp starting July 13. The weeklong camp is designed for budding filmmakers between the ages of 13 to 18 and consists of daily workshops and tutorials on screenwriting, movement and voice coaching, image capturing, and film editing.
O'Neals Continue Legacy of Community Stewardship
Fred '82 '85 '88 and Lillian O'Neal '86 are powerhouses in the local community, serving on the boards of multiple civic organizations and volunteering their time to better the lives of others. Fred has grown a successful career in Carrollton as a financial advisor the past 28 years while also contributing to UWG boards and committees.
