For the second time in as many years, the University of West Georgia will host the opening round of the Gulf South Conference Men’s Basketball Championship on Tuesday, March 5, at 7:30 p.m. in The Coliseum.

The Wolves clinched a hosting spot for the 2024 tournament with a win earlier this month over Alabama Huntsville, but the opponent for the Super Tuesday match has not yet been determined.

At the end of the regular season, the top eight teams in the GSC standings reach the GSC tournament, with the top four seeds hosting the opening round. UWG Men’s Basketball has seen a successful regular season this year, boasting a 22-4 record and a No. 13 ranking in NCAA Division II. With a win against tomorrow’s opponent, Mississippi College, the Wolves will secure the first outright GSC regular season title since 1987.

This will be the final postseason gameplay in Division II for the Wolves, as the Men’s Basketball program – and all other sports in UWG Athletics – will elevate to NCAA Division I and join the Atlantic Sun Conference on July 1.

“Hosting the opening round of the tournament as we celebrate our elevation to Division I is a great moment for our program, and it represents both our continued dedication to the pursuit of excellence and our advancement in the world of collegiate athletics,” said Jason Carmichael, UWG’s director of athletics. “There is a great sense of energy in postseason tournament play, and we are thrilled to welcome students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members to The Coliseum for what promises to be an electrifying event.”

Tickets are available online at the Wolves Event Store, with pricing listed below. Per GSC policy for championships, no passes will be accepted, and all attendees must have a ticket.

The game will be a “White Out,” with all attendees encouraged to wear white, with free white T-shirts courtesy of McDonald’s for the first 250 people. The Wolves are currently undefeated while wearing white.
