Janet Gubbins

Janet Gubbins is the Director of USG Faculty Development, former Director of UWG Online, and a part-time UWG political science instructor. She has over 25 years of progressive online learning systems support, instructional design, teaching, faculty development, project management, and leadership experience. While earning her MPA and working as a graduate assistant, her published research was the basis for one of the very first online courses ever taught at UWG. This experience was what led to a passion for online teaching and learning. In Janet’s previous role as Director of UWG Online, she was honored with multiple Best of the West awards and UWG Employee of the Year, for providing exemplar service to faculty, students, and other stakeholders. She served as UWG’s Advisor to eCore from 2000- 2004 and has taught for eCore since 2008. Janet holds numerous certificates from Quality Matters and in advanced Learning Management System support; has presented at national conferences on a wide-range of online learning topics; and has held leadership roles on national, state, and institutional committees and advisory boards. Through all of this, she says that she has learned one of the most important hats is the role of relationship-builder. "While productivity, performance, and data-driven decision-making are important, a human connection can be the deciding factor in failure or success. Instructors, students, and staff want to feel heard, valued, supported, and inspired."
