Kathleen Barrett

Dr. Barrett joined the University of West Georgia as a Lecturer after receiving her PhD in Political Science from Georgia State University and an LLM in International Human Rights Law and Practice from the University of York. Her research focus is on international and comparative politics, with particular focus on the national application of international human rights law. Current and recent research efforts include a comparative study of torture, Native American efforts before the United States Supreme Court, and constitutional court application of international human rights law, transitional justice, and judicial corruption. Her dissertation studied the transition of politics from communism to democracy in Central Eastern Europe as reflected in the relationship between the Constitutional Court, the Legislature and human rights.
