Ana Stanescu, Ph.D.

Dr. Ana Stanescu is an Associate Professor of Computer Science in the School of Computing, Analytics, and Modeling. Her research portfolio integrates methods from multiple disciplines, centering on the use of AI to study fundamental questions in the natural sciences. Her lab focuses on developing machine learning models to drive in silico investigation of complex phenomena. Active projects involve designing genomic language models for bacterial biology and training deep neural networks on molecular dynamics simulations to advance our understanding of high-order chemical systems.

Her previous collaborative research at UWG includes work that interlinked computational, predictive, and geographic methodologies, resulting in publications on geospatial big data, urban traffic congestion metrics, and satellite-based environmental monitoring.

Before joining UWG, she was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Institute of Genomics and Multiscale Biology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where she developed novel machine learning algorithms for biomedical problems, improved predictive modeling in DREAM Challenges, and created integrative methods for analyzing large-scale omics data.
