Louise Grann, Ph.D.

Louise Grann began her academic journey at Gordon College before transferring to the University of West Georgia, where she earned her B.A in psychology, with a minor in Philosophy, in 2011. Relocating to Carrollton, Georgia, she earned both her M.A. (2014) and PhD (2021) in psychology from the University of West Georgia.

As a life-long gamer, she explores video gaming from a psychological as well as personalized perspective. Drawing predominantly from psychodynamic and humanistic perspectives, her current work focuses on the player-avatar relationship and how personal growth can arise during video game play, particularly through character creation as well as imaginative role-play in digital games. She has contributed to several collective anthologies including 100 greatest video game characters (2017), The psychology of Zelda: Linking our world to the Legend of Zelda series (2019), The psychology of Final Fantasy: Surpassing the beak limit (2020), The psychology of Pokémon: The power to catch 'em all (2022) and, most recently, a gaming-centric chapter in the soon-to-be published Complex and archetype: Exploring the forces which animate our lives (2025).
