Hello! My name is Bobbi Otis. 

I am an instructor of Human Communication and Public Speaking. My teaching philosophy emphasizes active learning, collaboration and connecting course concepts to students' everyday lives. I have experience teaching in face-to-face, online and hybrid teaching formats.

As a scholar, my research focuses on structural inequality and the diverse political communication environment surrounding state voting rights policies. My current project uses rhetorical framing analysis, guided by the rhetoric of containment, to examine voter suppression efforts.

Outside of campus, I enjoy reading, quilting and baking sourdough bread. My ongoing reading challenge is to read all of the novels that have won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. So far, my favorite has been the 2023 winner Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingslover.

I look forward to getting to know my students and creating a classroom where everyone feels encouraged to participate, ask questions, and grow as a communicator.
