Students may qualify for a number of different education benefit programs. This page highlights a selection of the education benefit programs available, including information regarding how to apply for each of the benefits and the necessary paperwork needed by the University of West Georgia to certify a student’s enrollment with the VA.

All paperwork can be either faxed to CALV at 678-839-5515 or dropped off at CALV (UCC 311).  For security reasons, please do not email documents.

  • Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty (MGIB-AD) – Chapter 30

    Montgomery GI Bill benefits generally apply to Veterans who began active duty service for the first time after June 30, 1985, had their pay reduced $100 a month for 12 months, and received an honorable discharge.  Eligible servicemembers may receive up to 36 months of education benefits. 

    Required Documents
    • Certificate of Eligibility - Students can apply for their Certificate of Eligibility by completing the Veterans On-Line Application (VONAPP) through eBenefits.
    • DD-214 (Member 2 or 4) - If students no longer have their DD-214, a copy can be obtained from the National Archives.
    • CALV Veteran's Information Form - Information Form can be found on CALV's website or in person at CALV.
    Attendance Reporting Requirement

    Students receiving Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty (Chapter 30) benefits must verify their class attendance on or after the last day of each month before monthly payments are deposited into your account or mailed to you. You can do this quickly and easily online using the WAVE (Web Automated Verification of Enrollment) system  or by calling 1-877-823-2378.

  • Vocational Rehabilitation – Chapter 31

    A Veteran may receive Vocational Rehabilitation services to help with job training, employment accommodations, resume development and skills coaching.  Vocational Rehabilitation is a way for servicemembers to receive personalized counseling and support as they work to achieve their career goals.

    A Veteran may be eligible for Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment benefits if they:

    • Have received, or will receive, a discharge that is other than dishonorable
    • Have a service-connected disability rating of at least 10%, or a memorandum rating of 20% or more from the VA
    • Apply for Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment VetSuccess services

    Students interested in applying for Vocational Rehabilitation benefits can apply by logging in to their eBenefits

    Note:  All other required documents will be submitted to CALV by assigned Vocational Rehabilitation counselor after application for Vocational Rehabilitation has been approved.

  • Post 9/11 – Chapter 33

    Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits generally apply to Veterans who have at least 90 days of aggregate active duty service after September 10, 2001, and are still on active duty, or were honorably discharged or were discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days.  Eligible servicemembers and/or dependents may receive up to 36 months of education benefits.  In addition, a monthly housing allowance and annual books and supplies stipend may be available.

  • Dependents Educational Assistance (DEA) – Chapter 35

    Dependents Educational Assistance program offers education benefits to eligible dependents of Veterans who are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition or of Veterans who died while on active duty or as a result of a service-related condition.  Eligible dependents may receive up to 45 months of education benefits.
