BS in Computer Science

CODE. CREate. collaborate.
University of West Georgia's BS in Computer Science opens up a world of possibilities for our graduates.
Our BS in Computer Science program offers students a focused and progressive curriculum that provides the the knowledge needed to succeed as software developers in today's information technology job market.
The program is offered face-to-face at the UWG Carrollton campus and is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org.
Up-to-date and Relevant Curriculum
Learn object-oriented programming, web technologies, software engineering, databases, intelligent systems, machine learning, system architecture, and cloud computing.
Face-to-Face Learning
Course work is taught face-to-face by our highly trained computer science faculty with decades of real-world programming experience.
Experiential Learning
Students participate in a capstone group project and paid internships in industry that often lead to full-time positions after graduation.
BS in Computer Science Info
The UWG Undergraduate Catalog lists the requirements for the degree. We have also prepared an advising packet that includes the advising worksheet, recommended schedules, projected course rotation and prerequisite flowchart, and other important information.
Our graduates go on to pursue successful and rewarding careers in computing and information technology. The U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) projects "employment in computer and information technology occupations [...] to grow 13 percent from 2020 to 2030, faster than the average for all occupations." The OOH also notes that "the median annual wage for computer and information technology occupations was $91,250 in May 2020, which was higher than the median annual wage for all occupations of $41,950."
Possible career paths for graduates include software developers, computer programmers, computer systems analysts, web developers, and database administrators.
All undergraduate Computer Science majors are advised in the Department of Computing and Mathematics. Majors participate in a two-tiered advising process during each semester of enrollment by meeting both with a professional advisor and a faculty member.
Ms. Alexandra Young is the professional academic advisor for all undergraduate Computer Science majors. Ms. Young is available to meet with students for advising appointments and can also assist via email or phone with any other academic advising questions or concerns for Computer Science.
Cutting-Edge Technology & Facilities

Cutting-Edge Technology & Facilities
Our labs and classrooms have the latest technology and provide a flexible computing environment that gives students the opportunity to learn and experiment with various tools used in industry today. The labs also serve to foster community among Computing students as a central space to gather and collaborate on course work and projects. Virtual computing labs and online peer tutoring are also available to support individual student needs from any location.

Small Class Sizes
“Classes are smaller than at some larger universities, so we get a lot of one-on-one attention from our professors. Other schools are often more theoretical. West Georgia focuses on applied computer science, which is what I needed for the kind of career I want to start."
