Exceptional students of English, including majors, minors and graduate students, may apply for membership in Sigma Tau Delta, the National English Honor Society. To be eligible, students must have taken at least two courses in literature or writing beyond those required in Area A and must have an overall and English GPA of at least 3.0. Membership in the national organization provides students with the opportunity to participate in conferences and to publish their work. The UWG campus chapter also engages in social and cultural activities that are open to members and to the campus community more broadly.

For more information on membership, contact Dr. Maria Doyle, Program Coordinator for English (mdoyle@westga.edu). Students interested in becoming full members should fill out an application. Once this application has been reviewed, students will receive additional instructions on how to pay the one-time lifetime membership fee (currently $45) required by the national organization.

What does Sigma Tau Delta do?

The West Georgia Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta sponsors a number of activities each year. Specific events depend on the interests of the current membership but in the past have included theater trips, a literary costume party at Halloween, a spring party, informal gatherings at local restaurants, student research colloquia, career discussions and much more. These activities are only a starting point: marathon readings, literary film nights, literary debates ... it all depends on what students think would make their time as English majors more interesting and rewarding.

For information on activities sponsored by our campus chapter, contact Dr. Josh Masters (jmasters@westga.edu). On-campus events are open to all students with an interest in things literary!
