Big Night is hosted annually by the Student Association for Research and Creative Humanities. Competitions for the honor of presenting research are conducted in the arts, education, business and humanities, and winning students then make a 10-minute research presentation at Big Night. All other submissions are accepted for display as exhibits after the presentations
Big Night Highlights
Big Night 2013
The Department of Economics had five students participating in the event. Tyler Reid
was the first winner, Borja Arino was the second place winner, and Carlos Cano was
the third place winner. Other participants were: Dan Forsberg and Alexander Smith.
Dr. William " Joey " Smith was the advisor to Borja Arino, Dan Forsberg, and Tyler
Reid. Dr. Michael Sinkey was the advisor to Alexander Smith. Drs. James Yoder and
William "Joey" Smith were the advisors to Carlos Cano. This was the first year the
we had students presenting posters in the University Big Night Competition and Geoffrey
Liotta's poster placed 2nd and Borja Arino's poster placed 4th place.
Big Night 2012
The Department of Economics had seven students participating in the event. Clinton
Baxter was the first winner. Other participants were: Borja Arino, Tiffany Brady, Spencer
Lord, Catherine Mazhandu, Cassandra Sosebee, and Brittany Watkins. Dr. William " Joey
" Smith was the advisor to Clinton Baxter, Tiffany Brady, Cassandra Sosebee and Britany
Watkins. Dr. William Schaniel was the advisor to Catherine Mazhandu. Drs. Hilde Patron
and William "Joey" Smith were the advisors to Borja Arino and Spencer Lord.
Big Night 2011
The Department of Economics had four students participating in the event. Julia Zyabletsova
was the first place winner. Other participants were Dwight Barthelmy, Shevawn Christian,
and Torin Savage. Dr. William " Joey " Smith was the advisor to Dwight Barthelmy,
Shevawn Christian and Jullia Zyabletsova, and Dr. David Boldt was the advisor for
Torin Savage.
Big Night 2010
The Department of Economics had five students participating in the event. James Couch was
the first place winner, and Harold Walbert was the second place winner. Other participants
were Donna Marron, Tania Celis, and Linda Becham. Dr. William " Joey " Smith was
the advisor for all of this year's participants.
Big Night 2009
The Department of Economics had three students participating in the event. German
Perez Vergas was the first place winner. Asad Malik won third place. Dr. William "Joey"
Smith was the advisor for these two students. Tania Celis also participated in the
event. Her advisor was Dr. Hilde Patron.
Big Night 2008
The Department of Economics had one student participating in the event, Kim Holder,
who won 1st place with her Economics paper. Her advisor was Dr. William "Joey" Smith.
Kim Holder and Marcia Cole won 3rd place with their Multi-Topic paper on Solving the
Rubik's Cube. Their advisors were Dr. William "Joey" Smith and Dr. David Boldt.
Big Night 2007
The Department of Economics had one student who participated in the event, Justin
Purkey, who won first place. His advisor was Dr. William "Joey Smith."
Big Night 2005
The Department of Economics had one student participating in the event, Dustin Poole,
who won first place. His advisor was Dr. Michael Raper.
