Come and help clean up Lake Carroll. Meet by the Enterprise Car Rental on Bankhead Highway next to the Greenbelt. Make sure to dress appropriately; waders or rainboots are recommended!
Pollinator Planting, April 23rd, 2:30 PM
What’s all the BUZZ about? Come help sow the seeds for a ‘Pollinator Garden’ along the abandoned power line near the Coliseum and find out more about the ‘BUZZ’! Join in the conversation as we discuss the problems our pollinators face and what it means to us and how we can help!
UWG Trail Walk, April 23rd, 3:30 PM
Take a walk through the wonderful nature on campus. A guided tour on some of the backwoods trails will show you where you can go to get away from the hustle and bustle of campus. The walk will take about an hour, weather permitting. Be sure to bring appropriate shoes as the trail is not paved. The group will meet in the parking lot in front of the Colloseum.
Tree Planting, April 24th, 1:00 PM
Trees add beauty to our environment. Trees also provide fresh air and reduce pollution, they conserve water and reduce soil erosion, provide wildlife habitat, reduce noise, create economic opportunities, cool urban areas, conserve energy, and increase property values. Trees also bring people together. So, join us as help to beautify our campus by planting 50 trees along the Greenbelt in celebration of Earth Week! Meet at the Student Rec Center (aka the Hangar next to Nursing) to participate.
Bat Box Demo, April 24th, 6:30pm
Come join us as we learn a little about bats and build some bat houses. Did you know that one bat can eat over 1000 mosquitoes in one night? Learn what works, common mistakes, and how to maintain. It's easy,fun, and a great way to get rid of those pesky bugs flying around your house! This event will be held in the Campus Center Ballroom.
Sustainability Expo, April 25th, 5:00-8:00 PM
Please join us for the annual Sustainability Expo on April 25th, 5-7 at the Carrollton Cultural Arts Center. The event will feature over 20 local vendors, each with their own sustainability efforts. Guest speaker, Tanya Fields, is a food justice activist, educator, urban farmer, food blogger, and the founder and executive director of the BLK project. If you haven't heard of her before, check her out! We'll have food, live music, games and prizes - fun for the whole family!
Earth Week Hike April 26th, 2:00 PM -- Cancelled due to rain! ;-(
Join West Georgia Outdoors as we travel to Sweetwater Creek State Park for an afternoon spent exploring, hiking, and learning more about this beautiful world we live in. We will meet at the Bookstore parking lot at 2 pm on Thursday, April 26th and head to Sweetwater Creek from there. We will return to campus by 8 pm. We all know that exercise and eating fresh fruits and vegetables are important for a healthy body. Gardening provides both of those key elements for good health. Gardening can be hard work (exercise) and gardening provides us with a harvest of fresh healthy fruits and vegetables. Come join us as we work and set the stage for a great harvest! Farmers Market Bike Ride and Free Bike Rentals, April 28th, 9:30am
For Earth Week, stop into West Georgia Outdoors located in the Campus Center for your free bike rental. Rental is limited to day rental. Or join us for a ride to the Carrollton Farmers Market - about half an hour ride. If you are planning on riding with us, you can get a free bike rental for the weekend, with pickup on Friday and return on Monday. We will leave from in front of Campus Center and take the Green Belt almost the entire way. UREC is open from 12-6 pm Monday-Friday. Email email@example.com if you have any questions!
