HRL Scavanger Hunt:
Explore the campus, take selfies of yourself in front of sustainability landmarks, send them in and win prizes! This event is open all of Earth Week:
Monday, April 24th at 4pm -- Campus Trail Walk
Meet in front of the Colosseum and take a guided tour of UWG's many trails. These trails aren't widely known but they offer a great way to get away from the hustle and bustle of campus for some nature bonding time! Please be sure to bring appropriate foot wear (trails can be uneven and wet) and some water. Don't forget, walking the trails is also great exercise!
Tuesday, April 25th at 6pm -- Sustainability Career Panel
Meet in the Nursing Building, room 106 to learn more about how you can pursue a career in sustainability. Environmental consulting, regulation, compliance, and education are booming employment fields. Come to this career panel to learn more. The panel will consist of professionals from Tanner Health Systems, South Wire, Keep Carroll Beautiful, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Each panelist will offer insights into what environmental field looks like from their perspective as well as offering words of advice on how to preparer for a sweet job in sustainability.
Wednesday, April 26th at 10:30am -- Tree and Garden Planting
Meet in front of Z-6 and take a stroll down to UWG's campus garden. The garden is a wonderful place to put your hands in the soil and learn about growing food in a sustainable way. Some trees will be planted and the garden will prepped for this year's vegetable crops. Growing food is fun, empowering, and therapeutic, so come on down and check it out.
Thursday, April 27th at 5pm - Sustainability Expo at the Carrollton Cultural Arts Center
Meet the movers and shakers of sustainability in our community at the 4rth Annual
Sustainability Expo. This fun event features interactive booths, tiny house tours,
food, live music, and very special guest speaker: American writer, naturalist, and
environmental activist Janisse Ray. Janisse will speak at 6:30 followed by a book
signing. There will be a campus shuttle to transport students back and forth; the
first shuttle leaves at 5pm at the UCC bus stop.
Saturday, April 29th at 10am - Shuttle to Carrollton's Farmers Market
Meet at the UCC bus stop. Did you know that Carrollton has a seasonal Farmer's Market. This will be their second week of the season at their brand new location at 609 Dixie Street. Peruse the many booths of fresh fruit, vegetables, local meats, prepared food, and crafts. Most of the goods are organic and it is all local - hence very sustainable. Many students don't know that we have a farmers market, so this is your chance to get to know it. The shuttle will pick up at 10am at the UCC bus stop and bring everyone back at 11am.
