Be more marketable as a classroom teacher upon return;
Gain cross-cultural student experience for personal enrichment; and

This study abroad to London serves two purposes: to provide our undergraduate seniors and graduate students with a more global perspective of education and to carry out a service learning project with Brighton Table Tennis Club. By participating, our students will have the opportunity to experience a broader cultural experience than they would through their course work.

Students will gain a broader perspective of education globally through visits to a suburban k-12 school (Patcham School) in Brighton and an urban college (University of Roehampton, Whitelands College) in London to interact with faculty, staff, and students. London/Brighton is an English-speaking area; yet there are many opportunities for multicultural experiences as a result of their large immigrant populations. Students will also take part in a service learning project with the Brighton Table Tennis Club, which is run by a former teacher (Tim Holtam, who is one of the teachers who interacted with our students on previous study abroad programs). He left his former teaching job to create and direct this organization to bring together orphaned immigrant students, people with disabilities, and citizens of all ages. At both school visits, students will be able to interact with faculty, staff, and students to learn more about the British educational system.
