Tk20 System Information
What is the purpose of Tk20 in the College of Education at the University of West Georgia?
To ensure that College of Education graduates are prepared to work in their chosen professions, as well as, to satisfy all assessment-related requirements of accrediting and approval bodies for quality programs, the College of Education (COE) maintains an annual subscription to Tk20, the assessment data management platform by Watermark. This subscription allows students to submit a variety of assessments (course-embedded assignments, clinical and field experience evaluations, program specific observations, portfolios, etc.) that are used to measure candidate performance. Additionally, the subscription allows COE faculty and program specialists to enter data, maintain records, and analyze key assessments, demonstrating student learning. We can review the progress of every student individually. This enables us to advise students on their career paths, suggest remediation if needed, and for many students, monitor that all benchmarks needed to pass certification exams are met. Further, the variety of student learning data is regularly and systematically reviewed and prepared for submission to local and regional agencies and accrediting bodies, while also being used for continuous program improvement.
Program approval from the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) is necessary for all Education Preparation Providers (EPP) in Georgia. Part of the approval process requires an assessment learning platform for continuous improvement. In addition, the University of West Georgia (UWG) maintains regional accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), a necessity for all academic programs. Program approval by the GaPSC and regional accreditation by SACSCOC provide significant credibility for COE academic programs. This ensures quality for all candidates in each of the many degrees and pathways. Without program approval and regional accreditation, students may not be able to pursue certification through the GaPSC, and the degree program(s) would not be recognized with the same level of rigor, sustainability, or academic integrity.
The purchase of Tk20, not only benefits the COE, but also supports student learning and quality of programs – an important benefit for all students.
In a number of key courses, Tk20 is a required instructional resource similar to textbooks, video cameras, etc. The resource may be purchased at the University bookstore or online by going to http://westga.tk20.com/campustoolshighered/start.do. Students only need to purchase this service one time even though it will be used in multiple courses and will also be used by students to apply for field experience placements. The subscription is active for 10 years.
In class training is offered every semester to students and faculty who are new to the system. Additional training opportunities on specific features are offered as needs become apparent.
