      Program Requirements

      The graduate programs at the University of West Georgia set their own requirements needed for admission. As such, please review the admission information listed on the Program Page of the program you intend to apply.

    • College Transcripts
      College Transcripts

      Official college transcripts will be required from all universities you have attended. If any of these universities are not Regionally Accredited by an American accreditation body must be evaluated by an NACES-approved service. We require a course-by-course evaluation for all post-secondary work with a GPA conversion.

    • English Proficiency 
      English Proficiency 

      All students must meet West Georgia’s English Proficiency requirement. For students whose first language is English, a waiver can be applied for based on their performance completion of a degree taught in the English language from an English-based educational system (USA, Canada, UK, Australia, etc.).

      For student who need to provide proof of  English, we accept a wide range of exams.

      For most students, the TOEFL or IELTS exam will be the most popular method in providing Proof of English Proficiency.

      West Georgia’s requirements for these tests are:

      Submit your application for admission online and send the all supporting documents (application fee, transcripts, test scores and financial guarantee) to:

      If you did not submit your application fee with your admission application, you may make your payment through MyUWG or submit payment in the form of a check or money order drawn on a U.S. Banking Affiliate and made payable to the University of West Georgia. Do not send cash or international postal money orders. Application fees cannot be waived.

      Request Official Transcripts

      Official transcripts are certified copies of official documents from each secondary school, college, university and/or technical schools attended. Records must include courses completed, grades or marks earned, and certificates or degrees awarded. Include a certified English translation of all documents not written in English. 

      For Schools within the USA

      Upon graduation or completion of the semester, request that a final transcript be sent directly to UWG to determine final admission status. If your school(s) cannot send them directly to UWG, you may send them making sure they meet one of the following requirements:

      • Original academic credentials issued by the registrar of the institution attended, bearing the original raised or colored seal of the institution and the signature of the institution’s registrar, academic official or recognized international organization.
      • Photocopies of academic credentials that have been verified as true copies of the original by a responsible official of the institution attended or by an educational representative of the country’s government or embassy. Each page must bear the verifying official’s signature and stamp.
      • Photocopies of international academic credentials on file with the registrar of an institution you previously attended in the U.S.
        Photocopies of academic credentials that have been certified by a recognized international educational organization, such as the U.S. Educational Foundation, AMIDEAST or the Institute for International Education.
      For Schools Outside the USA
      • Original academic credentials issued by the registrar of the institution attended, bearing the original raised or colored seal of the institution and the signature of the institution’s registrar, academic official or recognized international organization.
      • Academic credentials must be evaluated by an evaluator in the NACES association. 
      Note: Any document UWG receives becomes property of UWG and will not be returned to you.

      Photocopies certified by a notary public are not official. Scanned copies are also not accepted in lieu of original official academic documents.

      All international transcripts must be submitted in the original language accompanied by an official English translation. Translations must be literal, complete versions of the originals and must be translated by a university, government official or official translation service. You may not complete your own translation.

      You must have one set of official transcripts from every high school, college and university from which you earned a high school diploma sent to UWG.

      This statement and the required supporting financial documents must be on file before an I-20/DS-2019 can be issued. Two sets of supporting documents should be obtained:

      • One set will be sent to the International Student Admissions & Programs Office and will become part of your permanent file. Photocopies, faxes and scans are accepted.
      • The other set should be issued to the U.S. Embassy or Consultant. Be sure to have the original documents (no photocopies, faxes or scans) during your visa appointment.
        The University of West Georgia requires financial documentation for the first year of study from each international applicant in the amount of:
      $ 32,000

      All applicants must show proof of finances. Please obtain an official letter from the bank or financial institution in which you, and/or your sponsor, have available funds. The letter from the bank must:

      • be on official bank letterhead;
      • be in English;
      • be signed by a bank official;
      • state the date the account was opened;
      • the currency type;
      • state the amount that is currently on the account;
      • be obtained and dated less than six months from the submission to UWG. (Letters older than six months are considered expired)

      Organization (government or private) sponsoring you must provide a letter of sponsorship on official letterhead with the following information:

      • organization’s address;
      • telephone and fax numbers;
      • original signature and title of the responsible official;
      • your name
      • specific dollar amount
      • duration of the scholarship
