International Student Waiver Information
This waiver applies to international students. For domestic students wishing to apply for an out of state waiver, please visit UWG Admissions.
Undergraduate international students are eligible to apply for an Out-of-State Tuition Waiver (Graduate students are considered under a different category). This waiver may allow students to qualify for the in-state tuition rates rather than the rates charged to out-of-state/international students. These waivers are limited and highly competitive. To qualify, applicants must exceed minimum standards (as outlined below) and apply for the waiver by completing a separate application. Financial need is also taken into consideration and helps to determine what level of award will be offered.
Applications for prospective UWG students are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis, starting from the Early Action Deadline of February 1st (Fall Deadline) or July 1st (Spring Deadline).
Waivers are awarded on an annual basis and students will need to reapply each year to maintain their award. Initial priority is the renewal of waivers for current students who have been receiving waivers during the previous academic year. Secondary consideration will be given to prospective students who wish to join UWG for the first time. Finally, consideration is given to current international students at UWG who apply for a new waiver or who wish to be considered for an increased award.
Being part of the UWG Waiver program is a privilege. Students are expected to not only maintain the minimum GPA and to stay in compliance with all immigration rules and regulations but also contribute to making UWG a better place for students. These contributions can take many forms such as participation in campus clubs, volunteer activities, athletics, etc. The review and allocation of waivers is conducted by the Office of International Student Admissions and Programs.
Students who fail to maintain the specified level of academic performance at the conclusion of the respective academic year shall result in the student being placed in a two-semester probationary status. The student will remain eligible for the waiver during the probationary period, but will be ineligible for the waiver if the student is not able to achieve the specified level of academic performance for the student’s specific waiver amount (E.G. President, Scholastic, or Academic level). If the student would improve their GPA after the loss/reduction of the waiver, they would be eligible to apply again in the future.
For the basis of this application, GPA is considered to be institutional GPA. Transfer GPA will not be used as part of this calculation.
