The Bachelor of Science in Nursing, RN to BSN, is a 100 percent online program designed for individuals who are already licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN).  The program prepares RN's for professional advancement and offers interactive learning through an asynchronous online environment.  This program combines a rich and liberal foundation the arts, sciences, and humanities with a unique nursing curriculum that emphasizes the art and science of nursing.  Program applications are accepted from February 1 to May 1 for Fall admission.  Please visit the RN to BSN page on the School of Nursing website for more information on admission, application, advising, and program plan of study.

UWG Tanner Health System School of Nursing is now accepting out of state applications for the online RN to BSN Program for Fall 2017 admission.  Online Degree and Certification Programs may not be available in all states. If you are an out-of-state student, please contact the Director of Distance Education to confirm that the program is available in your state.     Applicants seeking admission to the RN-BSN program should be self-directed and committed to engaging in caring nursing practices with indivulas from diverse backgrounds.  Nursing practice is holistic and recognizes the relationship of the mind, body, and spirit.  As critical thinkers, students will be expected to examine personal value systems and the value systems of others.  Students seeking admission to this program should consider their personal goals and values in light of those expresssed in the philosophy of the School of Nursing.

    RN-BSN courses are offered 100 % online. The professional sequence may be completed in two semesters. Admission is for Fall semester.

    The University of West Georgia is accredited by The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

    This program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

    A transfer credit evaluation will be completed by the UWG Transfer Team (transfer@westga.edu). Course application to a program is subject to review by the department.

    UWG is often ranked as one of the most affordable accredited university of its kind, regardless of the method of delivery chosen. In addition, online courses and programs can mean a cost-savings in many non-evident ways: No more high gas charges. No childcare needed. The flexibility can allow one to maintain a job while attending school. Regardless of state residency, out-of-state non-resident students are not charged non-resident tuition for online course credit hours.

    • Total tuition costs and fees may vary, depending on the instructional method of the courses in which the student chooses to enroll.
    • The more courses a student takes in a single term, the more they will typically save in fees and total cost.
    • Face-to-Face or partially online courses are charged at the general tuition rate and all mandatory campus fees, based on the student's residency (non-residents are charged at a higher rate).
    • Fully or entirely online courses are charged at the general tuition rate plus an eTuition rate BUT with less fees and no extra charges to non-Residents.
    • Together this means that GA residents pay about the same if they take all face-to-face or partially online courses as they do if they take only fully online courses exclusively; while non-residents save money by taking fully online courses.
    • One word of caution: If a student takes a combination of face-to-face and online courses in a single term, they will pay both all mandatory campus fees and the higher eTuition rate.

    RN to BSN program checklist for a complete list of courses for Fall and Spring semesters.  RN students complete 17 semester hours of required nursing courses during Fall and Spring semesters (Fall:  9 credit hours and Spring:  8 credit hours, including clinical) and are eligible for up to 45 hours of semester credit through the Georgia RN to BSN Articulation Plan.

      This course is designed to focus on the theoretical concepts relevant to the practice of nursing leadership in the healthcare community.     Guidelines for Admittance

    Each UWG online degree program has specific requirements that you must meet in order to enroll.

    Program Specific Admittance Guidelines

    • Earned Associates of Science in Nursing (ASN) degree or RN Diploma from an NLNAC or CCNE accredited program.
    • Evidence of current licensure as a registered nurse (RN) in the United States and eligibility for licensure in the state of Georgia.
    • Accepting RN's who have a Georgia RN license 
    • Also accepting out of state applications for the online RN to BSN Program for Fall 2017 admission.  Online Degree and Certification Programs may not be available in all states. If you are an out-of-state student, please contact the Director of Distance Education to confirm that the program is available in your state.       • English 1101 and 1102
      • Math 1111 (College Algebra or 1001 (Quant.Skills) or 1113 (Pre Calc) or 1634 (Calc) AND 2063 (Statistics)
      • At least 3 of the 5 lab science courses required for a BSN:  A&P I & II, Microbiology, and Principles of Biology or Principles of Chemistry (2 course sequences)
      • 12 semester hours of equivalent electives (communication, humanities, etc), history or additional science
