DAY ONE ACCESS (D1A/DOA)

Day One Access is UWG’s inclusive access program that provides students with digital course materials directly through CourseDen. This program allows UWG Outfitters to work with publishers to offer materials at significantly reduced prices—up to 80% less than printed textbooks—and ensures that students have access on the first day of class.

Students are automatically enrolled in Day One Access for any participating courses, and the associated charges are applied to their student accounts. However, students may choose to opt out before the deadline if they prefer to obtain the materials elsewhere or already have a copy.

Instructions for accessing and opting out of materials, along with the opt-out deadline, are included in the Day One Access welcome email sent on the first day of class. Students should use their UWG email address when creating any publisher or VitalSource accounts, as digital access is linked to their UWG email address.

About the Day One Access Welcome Email

On the first day of each session, students enrolled in Day One Access courses receive an email from UWG Outfitters (westga@verbasoftware.edu) with the subject line “Welcome to Day One Access for UWG Course Materials.”

This email includes:

  • Instructions for accessing course materials
  • Opt-out information and the deadline
  • The student’s courses using Day One Access

To ensure delivery, students are encouraged to add westga@verbasoftware.edu to their contacts.

If the Welcome Email is not received, but the student is enrolled in a course using Day One Access, they should contact Day One Access Support at dayone@westga.edu for assistance.

How much does Day One Access cost?

Costs vary by platform and content, but Day One Access materials are typically discounted—up to 80% cheaper than printed textbooks.

How am I charged for Day One Access materials?

Charges appear as “Digital Course Mtrl Access-Bks” under the Miscellaneous Fees tab in your student account. A separate line item will appear for each Day One Access textbook.

You’ll pay for these materials along with your tuition and fees. Please refer to the payment deadlines provided by the Office of Student Accounts and Billing.

I’ve already paid for my tuition and fees, but a Day One Access charge appeared after the payment deadline. Do I still have to pay it?

Yes. Because Day One Access charges are uploaded automatically, they may appear after the tuition deadline. These charges are separate from tuition, so any new balances must still be paid.

I’m a dual-enrolled or GA’s Best student. Will I be charged for Day One Access?

No. Day One Access materials are covered for Dual Enrolled and GA’s Best students.

How do I access the Day One Access materials?

  1. Log in to CourseDen.
  2. Go to your course page → Tools → Digital Textbooks (Day One Access).
  3. Click Read Now or Launch Courseware.

If your course uses publisher courseware (like Cengage MindTap, McGraw-Hill Connect, Pearson MyLab or Mastering, etc.), check the course content area for additional links. If you can’t find them, ask your instructor.

When accessing for the first time, you may be prompted to log in or create a VitalSource Bookshelf account using your UWG email.

Can I download my digital textbook?

Yes, for some titles.

Download the VitalSource Bookshelf app for desktop or mobile to see which books are available for offline access. Sign in using your UWG email.

What does "lifetime access” mean?

“Lifetime access” means you can use the book indefinitely while your UWG email is active. A five-year online license and a perpetual offline license are created for you.

Note: Once your course ends, you’ll lose the CourseDen link to the book. You can keep offline access by downloading it in the VitalSource Bookshelf app. Once your UWG email is deactivated (typically 2–3 semesters after leaving UWG), you’ll lose access to your VitalSource account.

CAN I OPT OUT OF DAY ONE ACCESS?

How do I opt out of Day One Access?

If you do not want to use Day One Access materials, you can opt out to avoid being charged.

  1. Log in to CourseDen → Tools → Digital Textbooks (Day One Access).
  2. Click “Want to opt-out?” under the book’s name.
  3. Select a reason and click Opt Out.

The status will update to “Opted Out”, and you’ll receive a confirmation email.

If you don’t receive confirmation, try again or email dayone@westga.edu for help.

Note:

  • You must opt out for each book individually.
  • You cannot opt out after the deadline.
  • Opting out means you’ll need to purchase materials elsewhere at the regular price.

What is the opt-out deadline?

Refer to the Day One Access Welcome Email that was sent the day your class(es) started. It includes the opt-out deadline for the term/session.

When will my refund be processed after I opt out?

Day One Access refunds are processed with other student account refunds approximately 25–30 days after the semester starts.

For billing questions, contact Student Accounts and Billing Services.

If I change my mind after I opt out, can I opt back in?

Yes. You can opt back in anytime before the opt-out deadline in the Welcome Email.

After the deadline, email dayone@westga.edu to request a late opt-in. Approval is not guaranteed.

What happens if I drop a course?

If you drop a course during the drop/add period...

  • Before the opt-out deadline: You’ll be automatically opted out and not charged (allow up to 4 days for the charge to clear).
  • After the opt-out deadline: Email bookstore@westga.edu within 3 days of dropping the course to request removal of the charge. Requests received after 3 days are reviewed individually and may not qualify for a refund.

Why is my textbook asking me to log in?

Some platforms require you to create an account with your UWG email to authenticate access to digital materials.

I don’t see my question here. Who should I contact for help?

  • For access and opt-out issues, email dayone@westga.edu (include your student ID and course info).
