The UWG Art Program presents a new exhibition, FLO (for lovers only), by Shakeelah Muhammad. Shakeelah is an African American painter born and raised in Columbus, Georgia, and a senior at the UWG earning a  BFA in Painting. Originating from humble beginnings, she developed a love for thrifting and collecting second-hand items to make 3D paintings. Drawing from her struggles as a single mother raising a son, she creates emotionally compelling large-scale portraits depicting black experiences in America. She utilizes fabric, collage, beads, crystals, hand sewing, and installations to bring the viewer into these traumatic spectacles. FLO highlights the intimacy and enmity of relationships and how these variables shape our perception of self and Identity.

  • Ingram Library 3rd Floor Gallery
  • Reception: June 16, 5:00-6:30 p.m.
  • Exhibition: June 6-July 14
