Newnan - Charles Wadsworth Auditorium

Friday, September 17, 2021 05:00 PM - 09:00 PM

Join us for a reception to inaugurate the Vault Gallery's first show. This group exhibition invites artists to share their responses and reflections on the universal, familiar, and timely theme of Home. It is scheduled during Newnan's Art Walk, so please stop by the Wadsworth and see the new gallery space.

Originally conceived prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the exhibition theme Home was intended to celebrate Newnan’s identity as the “City of Homes,” allowing artists to share their responses. Having lived through the pandemic, Home obviously resonates in significant and novel ways. Our world has been transformed. While we were required to shelter in place, our personal spaces became both refuge and cage, office and school.

In our new reality, Home is not only a space for habitation and shelter but also for memory and identity in all of their rich cultural, historical, political, and socioeconomic contexts. This exhibition, then, treats the theme of Home as physical space, idealized concept, and metaphor.

The Vault Gallery is a collaboration between University of West Georgia’s School of the Arts, the Newnan Artist-in-Residence Program, and the city of Newnan itself. It will be open to the public on a limited basis throughout the year.
