Residence Hall Closing Information
Residence Halls Arbor View Apartments, Tyus Hall, and University Suites will remain open during the holidays. Residents who reside in these halls are not required to complete a Break Stay request.
Residence Halls Oaks, Bowdon Hall, and Center Pointe Suites will be closed during the holiday breaks. Residents residing in these halls must complete a Break Stay request if housing accommodations are needed while the buildings are closed.

Residents are required to check out of their residence halls, suite or apartment within 24 hours of their last final (or last due date for final projects). We ask that residents who are finished with their academic work check out of their assignment to allow the remaining students, still studying for finals, and students working on final projects the best environment possible to complete their work.
Residents who are graduating and those who have been approved (via written notification from the Housing office) and paid the transition housing fee(s), where applicable, will be permitted to remain past the residence hall closing time.
Supporting an atmosphere conducive to study is a very high priority during exam week. All residence hall floors begin 24-hour quiet hours a week before the first final exam and these will continue without interruption until Friday of Finals Week. To help maintain this environment, residents must vacate the residence halls (including Arbor View, University Suites and Tyus Hall) within 24 hours after their last examination. If a resident’s conduct has been disruptive during or around finals week, the Department of Housing and Residence Life reserves the right to have that student leave the residence hall one hour after his/her final examinations are completed or immediately if disruption continues and/or the resident’s behavior poses a threat to the community. If a resident is required to leave, they will commute for the remainder of their finals.
In order to properly check out of your room, you must choose one of the following two options:
- Option 1- Scheduling an appointment with your RA to check out of your assignment. At your appointment time, your RA will meet you at your room to check you out. During the check out process, the RA will conduct an inspection of your room, noting all damages. Once the paperwork is completed, you will turn in your room key, sign the inspection form (RIF) and have a great summer!
- Option 2- An Express Checkout. Once you have moved everything out of your assignment, obtain an express checkout envelope from your hall office and complete it thoroughly by listing your assignment and signing your name on the outside of the envelope. You must also turn in your room key at that time-inside the sealed envelope.
Note: Keys must be turned into to a staff member during a check out appointment or via an express checkout envelope. Leaving your key with a roommate or friend is not proper procedure and may result in your being charged for an improper check out and/or a lock change.
As outlined in the Housing Contact the student(s) occupying an assignment are to be jointly responsible for the protection of the unit, its furnishings and equipment, and to share in the payment for damages sustained. General building damage, floor damage and individual room damages are assessed throughout the academic year and at the time when the residence halls close.
Individuals who are identified as responsible for damage will be billed accordingly; students will be notified of any damage charges along with the applicable appeals process via their MyUWG email account. NOTE: It is imperative that residents continue to check their MyUWG email account even once the semester ends. All damages to common facilities or common areas within a room or unit will be shared by the student(s) who reside in that room/unit.
If there are damages that have occurred in your room/unit, it is suggested that you consider completing a Damage Claim Form (PDF) so that the responsible party(ies), can be held responsible for any related charges.
- Purchase cleaning supplies, moving boxes, packing totes, trash bags, etc.
- Start taking personal items you no longer need home now
- Know your exam schedule so you can plan to clean and pack ahead of time.
- Don’t leave your cleaning and packing until the last minute.
- Bring your hand-truck or dolly from home. It will ease and speed up your move-out process.
- If you live in a suite or apartment, don’t forget about the bathroom, kitchen, and common room when you’re cleaning.
- For out-of-state students, or those wanting to store belongings over the summer, contact storage facilities early to arrange for storage of your belongings.
