Photo of Library Dean, Lorene FlandersDean Flanders began working in Georgia libraries in 1976, first as a student assistant in the Willet Memorial Library at Wesleyan College, and in the summer of 1977 as the bookmobile driver for the Oconee Regional Library System, where she was later Young Adult Librarian. Cobb County Public Library director Mary Louise Rheay hired her as Children's Librarian in 1980. She served on the faculty at Georgia College & State University from 1989 until her appointment at the University of West Georgia in 2005. During her twelve-year tenure at UWG she established the Penelope Melson Society, oversaw the renovation of Ingram Library, extended library hours 24/5, and expanded Special Collections, making the library the academic heart of the campus and its cultural crossroads.
