In a year marked by the importance – and sometimes the necessity – of online learning, four online programs offered at the University of West Georgia have been ranked among the nation’s best by U.S. News and World Report.

Following a survey of more than 1,600 programs, UWG earned coveted spots on the publication’s lists of Best Online Bachelor’s Programs, Best Online MBA, Best Online Education graduate degree and Best Online Nursing graduate degree.

“We are honored to be recognized by U.S. News and World Report for offering some of the most high-quality online degree programs in the nation,” said Dr. Brendan Kelly, UWG president. “The university has made dedicated efforts to improve the quantity and quality of our online offerings, and that has been especially important this year, as we have offered distinctive programs both in-person and online to fit our students’ needs.”

Each year, U.S. News develops the rankings based on statistical surveys submitted by colleges and universities as well as data collected in a separate peer-reputation survey.

Surveys for the bachelor’s programs ranked more than 350 institutions on the categories of engagement, services and technology, faculty credentials and training, and expert opinion. The surveys for graduate degree programs measured those four categories as well as student excellence.

UWG, a trailblazer in online education, began offering online courses in 1997. Now, more than 3,600 students around the world attend the university exclusively online in more than 40 degree and certificate programs.

UWG is also the operational home to the University System of Georgia’s eCampus, a service unit that includes eCore and eMajor and partners with USG institutions to provide quality post-secondary online degrees that address the workplace needs of Georgia and beyond.

“These rankings speak to the quality and value of a University of West Georgia education,” said Dr. Jon Preston, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at UWG. “The combination of UWG faculty who are experts in their fields, robust curricula that engage our students and supportive staff who are committed to helping students succeed creates a rich, digital learning environment that empowers our students to pursue and achieve their educational goals and prepare them for careers in the 21st century.”
