Hundreds of University of West Georgia students gathered together on Saturday, April 1, to give back to their campus and community during the annual Big Event.

After signing in and hearing some inspirational words from Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Dr. Scot Lingrell and Associate Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students Dr. Xavier Whitaker, students broke into groups and headed out into the community to serve various organizations, such as Keep Carroll Beautiful, the Carroll County Veterans Memorial Park, the Whitesburg Library and the Carrollton Housing Authority. Some students stayed behind to make homemade dog toys for the local animal shelter or write messages of encouragement that will be sent to various local organizations. Students wrote positive messages for victims of domestic violence and those fighting cancer. Many also wrote “Thank You” notes to the area’s doctors, nurses and veterans.

The event was organized by UWG’s Center for Student Involvement.
