The University of West Georgia's Townsend Center for the Performing Arts is proud to present legendary vocal quartet, The Manhattan Transfer, on Friday, January 30 at 8:00 p.m. As the headliner for the LiveArt 2015 Gala and the twenty-sixth season, The Manhattan Transfer with Jazz Trio is the eighth installment of the Townsend Center’s annual fundraiser.

According to John L. Walters of the London Jazz News, “There’s no act remotely like New York’s Manhattan Transfer. The close harmony vocal quartet can do everything from doo-wop to Broadway…from big band swing to fusion.”

The Manhattan Transfer has remained an important part of musical history for over 40 years. The quartet has won 10 Grammy Awards of 20 nominations, has been inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, and continues to wow audiences with live performances throughout the country and the world. The Manhattan Transfer is comprised of Cheryl Bentyne, Alan Paul, Janis Siegel, and Trist Curless, who joined the quartet after the recent passing of the group’s founder, Tim Hauser. With worldwide record sales in the millions, The Manhattan Transfer has topped the charts consistently for decades with their melodic and jazz infused vocals that bring audiences back year after year.

Managed by community volunteers who love the arts, LiveArt prides itself on bringing the nation’s foremost artists to the local communities of West Georgia. Each year, the advisory committee selects two artists for the season, one for the gala in January and the second for family night in March, explained Robert Jennings, director of the Townsend Center. Then, volunteers select a theme for the Gala, design and implement elaborate decorations, staging, backdrops, hire a band for the party, and craft a unique and authentic menu. Funds raised from LiveArt support artistic programming, K-12 school shows, community outreach and scholarships for students in art, music, and theatre. LiveArt 2015 is co-chaired by Marilyn Hubbard and Lori Blackmon with a committee of 25 community volunteers.

In addition to the gala with The Manhattan Transfer, LiveArt Family Night will present the classic Broadway musical Seven Brides for Seven Brothers on Friday, March 27.
